How To Spring Clean Your Closet, LetGo & Make Money

How To Spring Clean Your Closet, LetGo & Make Money

I have a closet room cupboard full of clothes. Yet, I’m always faced with the common dilemma of not having anything to wear. It’s not that I don’t have enough, it’s just that I have a cupboard full of things that either don’t fit, don’t suit my style, or things I just can’t get rid of because I spent too much money on them. While every girl wants a well edited collection of wearable items, Spring is the perfect time to shed the excess and start working towards that dream closet goal. By dream closet, I don’t mean one that’s floor-to-ceiling-wall-to-wall, but rather a happy place, filled with pieces of clothing and items that you would actually wear. So today, I’m going to give you a quick guide to spring cleaning your closet, show you how to LetGo and even make some money on the side. Money you can use for new items that are actually YOU, and it’s all thanks to a fun, interactive mobile shopping App called LetGo.

My Closet Room Reveal

My Closet Room Reveal

I’ve been meaning to do an updated closet room tour since moving to our new home, and also because my closet room is always a hot topic and one that is highly requested by my lovely readers on StyleScoop. We’ve been in Jozi for two years now, so it’s about dang time! This weekend, after giving my vanity table a fresh coat of paint, I thought now is the perfect time to invite you into a little visual tour of my second JHB Closet. The first one was just okay. I had set it up in the spare bedroom (benefits of not having kids haha), but I didn’t love it. It was dark and the walls were a bland and boring yellow paint (which we couldn’t re-fresh), but this one, man oh man, it’s perfect. Bright white walls,  high beam exposed ceilings and so much friggin natural light! The set up is very similar to my previous one from our Durban home, it’s just bigger and a lot better. I used most of the fittings from my old setup from the very first closet room, and since I have more space in this room, I could add an extra book shelf slash shoe…

Packing and Travelling Like A Pro

Packing and Travelling Like A Pro

I’m constantly looking for ways to pack smarter when I travel, and since I do a lot of travelling (locally and internationally), I thought I’d put together a little guide to packing like a pro, because it’s easier than you think! Your Suitcase Matters On my recent trip to Dubai, I travelled with the amazing TUMI TEGRA-LITE® MAX Large Trip Expandable Packing Case, and it is awesome with a capital A! You guys know I love my TUMI Tegra Lite Carry on, and it was amazing to take the “big boy” with me this time! The Large Trip Packing case fitted everything for my seven-day trip, including; outfits, accessories and shoes (don’t forget the shoes) for about 15+ outfits. The case itself is super light weight, weighing under 7 kilograms (6.44kg to be exact) and since it’s made from a protective material, it kept everything perfectly in place and safe. The thing I love the most about this case is how seamless and effortless it was to wheel around. It moves in every direction, with double turning wheels, and since I was responsible for lugging my own bags around – I found it very easy to manage on my own. I even…

Hat Trick! DIY Store and Display Your Hats

Hat Trick! DIY Store and Display Your Hats

You guys know I’m OCD when it comes to organizing stuff. I want to make it easy to find things, especially when it comes to my outfits, because who really has time to mess around? Takes me enough time doing my hair and makeup as it is! One thing that always bothered me was my hat “setup”. Over the past couple of months, I’ve gone cuckoo for hats. But back to the point at hand, storing my hats was always an issue, until I came up with the ultimate hat trick. I have a hat stand in my entrance hall with all my summery trilby hats, but for my dressier ones, ones that go beyond the swimming pool, I wanted them to be more prominent and easy to access while I’m getting dressed and putting outfits together. So, I created this super easy hat display that (seriously) took less than 5 minutes to put together. Annnnd, the best part is that it makes a great decor statement in my closet room… My hats now hang from a single fabric ribbon, and each one is pegged in making it easy to remove and replace. Depending on you, you could drill a pretty…

Time To Travel

Time To Travel

You guys! I recently got the most amazing news ever! Next week, little old me, will be jet setting to the UK (first time ever) to check out the latest offering from River Island. The brand launches in South Africa this month (thanks Edgars) and later on, in September, the doors to the first South African River Island Concept store will open! I am so excited that I’ll be getting a first look at what will be on offer, and of course, I’ll share with you guys! I’m also really excited about going to London! Woo Hoo! What to wear?! What to take?! What to See?! Where to Shop?! Questions, questions, so many questions… But the ultimate thing on my mind right now is travelling and getting packed! Of course, I’ll be travelling with my TUMI, but here are some other exciting items from the latest TUMI Fall 2014 collection that I would just D-I-E to get my hands on to take with… As you probably know, I am obsessed with organising and packing is no exception! I’ve been overseas a couple of times (and locally about a bazillion), and every time I get a little better at packing. And these goodies from the TUMI Journey collection are right…

3 Clever Ways to Store Your Boots This Winter

3 Clever Ways to Store Your Boots This Winter

Boots are one of the most annoying things to store in your closet. Some, especially soft leather ones (like my Tsonga Riding Boots), tend to flop, making them look really untidy and cluttered. But, don’t fear – I have found THREE really cool and easy ways to store boots and keep them looking neat and tidy. As you may know, I keep my boots stored like this (above), on the bottom shelf of my shoe shelf in my closet room. I like to have them displayed properly, without them flopping around. My Hunter Boots are the only pair that ‘stand on their own’. Every other pair has a little hidden trick to keep them upright… These tricks work wonderfully whether you keep your boots in your closet or displayed, and they are fairly inexpensive. In fact, two of the tricks you’d be able to accomplish without spending any “extra” money at all! Trick #1: Empty Wine Bottles This is such a cool trick and you’ve probably got empty bottles lying around. If not, well then this is a perfect excuse to celebrate finding a solution to your boot storage dilemma! Just make sure that the empty bottle is clean and that there aren’t any droplets of wine inside. I’ve used…

Dresser Details! How I store my Makeup

Dresser Details! How I store my Makeup

I love my new vanity setup! A huge change from my previous setup and makeup storage. As a (part) beauty blogger (part fashion and lifestyle blogger), I love makeup, but I also like to use makeup (not just shove it away), so I get a little OTT with storage and organization. One of the reasons that I wanted to change my closet room, was because my cluttered dresser was a bit of an eye sore. I was after a sleek, clean and simple space, but one that was also functional in terms of getting ready.  My refreshed space is so much prettier, and it just makes me smile every day! My dresser My little trash to treasure conversion! After I changed my closet room, I needed a table for my vanity, so I used hubby’s old student desk as a temporary solution. It was kinda boring, bland pine wood with those horrible round wooden knobs (ya, you know what I’m talking about). But hey, it was better than nothing. I made a few adjustments by removing the three bottom draws (leaving only the top one), so that I could fit my Acrylic Makeup Organizer “into” the desk! It was a perfect fit! I actually…

Step Into My Closet

Step Into My Closet

A lot of you have been asking for an “updated” version of my closet room, and I’ve been promising one for ages! Well kids, today is the day…. So why don’t you step inside my updated closet room… To give you the really quick version; we turned one of the spare bedrooms in our house into a closet room. My old setup (from nearly three years ago) became a little too cluttered for my liking. I have since changed it to make everything still accessible, but much neater and prettier. I’ve also slowly added bits and pieces, like my fluffy white carpet, dresser stool and my chandelier (which unfortunately isn’t visible in any of my pics – grrr!) Ok, so on the one side of the wall (opposite the window), I have my dresser and shoe shelf. Both of these were old pieces of furniture that I just revamped by painting them white. If you’re looking for THE BEST white wood paint, I highly recommend Dulux Pearl Glo. Make sure you give it a coat of primer first! My dresser, or vanity table – which ever you prefer is quite a nifty setup. There is quite a lot to show and…

How to Hang Your Jeans

How to Hang Your Jeans

Finding your jeans in your closet can be quite frustrating! I used to store mine, folded on top of one another on a shelf, and I could never find which pair I was looking for! In fact, I hardly knew what jeans I had! After re-arranging my Closet Room (here’s what it looked like before – I still need to do that post on the updated layout by the way), I managed to squeeze in a bit more hanging space, so I decided to dedicate a rail (well half a rail) to storing my jeans. I now hang all my jeans in a way that I can see them properly! Not only the colour, but the cut, style, and most importantly for me, the leg. I am a jeans person, so I love my skinnies, bootlegs and boyfriend jeans. Hanging and displaying them like this has made a huge difference in helping me find “just the right pair”. I have three basic hanging methods, all using wooden hangers. I mostly hang my jeans by slipping the back belt loops onto the sides of the hanger. This works for most of my Demi-Curve Levi’s jeans becuase they are low waisted and have enough “room”…

How I Store My Accessories

How I Store My Accessories

By now you probably know that I have a bit of an addiction when it comes to accessories and another one, equally as obsessive when it comes to storing and organizing stuff. I took over a little corner in my hubby’s dressing room and used an old chest of drawers that was filled with junk, to create my own little Accessories Armoire. I would absolutely die to have a real jewellery armoire one day, but for now, this set up will have to do… I contemplated painting my chest white, but because it’s been in my family for so long, I decided against it. I thought it would be nice to give you guys a little tour of how I store my accessories, which will hopefully give you some ideas on how to store your own. On the top of the chest, I keep my stretchy bracelets. I found this awesome bangle/ bracelet display stand at China Mall and although it does take up a lot of space, it keeps my bracelets accessible and easy to see. Taking them off is quite easy, as most of them are stretchy, so you can just stretch them over. I’m also using my…

Our Super Clever Ways to Store & Organize Your Accessories

Our Super Clever Ways to Store & Organize Your Accessories

I am a sucker for awesome ideas to store and organize stuff, especially when it comes to girly things like shoes, clothes, makeup and accessories. After years of hoarding collecting bundles of bangles, necklaces, rings, sunglasses etc, I’ve realised that it’s far better to buy and look after something you like, rather than just spend more money on more stuff just because you haven’t looked after it. Besides keeping your stuff looking newer for longer, storing your accessories neatly also makes life so much easier when trying to find something. Here are some of my own pics and ideas on how to organize your accessories…   I love long necklaces, but had never found any decent way to store mine. Then, thanks to Pinterest I found a great idea that inspired my own… to use cute cupboard door handles, drill them into the wall and then just pile on the accessories. They also make a really cute feature on the wall. I featured my ring storage solution on StyleScoop back in January this year. Here, I used clear plastic egg trays (that I found at Mr Price Home) to store all my rings. You could even use empty egg cartons and paint them in…

Style your Starches in Apothecary Jars

Style your Starches in Apothecary Jars

I have always loved beautiful Apothecary Jars. I don’t know what it is about them, but they are just so pretty. I never knew what to store in them until I watched an episode of Brothers & Sisters that featured Nora’s amazing kitchen and her beautiful display of Apothecary Jars by her window. Since I found a purpose for them, I had been hunting for these jars everywhere and just recently I managed to find two beautiful glass Apothecary Jars. I use one of the jars to store pasta and the smaller one store rice, and they both sit beautifully on my kitchen counter. The only problem is that I have to keep them fairly full to look pretty, but at least I’ll never run out of rice or pasta! Image Credit: apartmenttherapy.com These gorgeous jars can be used to store more than just pasta and rice. For example you could store sweets in them too – although this would not work well in my house, and they would most defintely look empty far too quickly! Not to mention, I’d need a whole new wardrobe, a size up! If you have space in your bathroom, Apothecary Jars also make great containers to store your…
