Winter is an especially great time to wear hats.  Although many use hats to cover up bad hair days (and indeed there is a place for that), there are more reasons to don something on your head. It can take a little courage at first, but try on an assortment of different styles and you’ll find your match.  Choose a hat that fits your face and complements your skin colour. For instance, if you have a longer face, steer clear of hats with a lot of height, while if your face is of the rounder variety, you’ll look fab in a loftier version. Ruddy cheeks?  Stick to hats in shades of brown. The next tip in your quest for hat loveliness is to not fuss too much with your hair.  Don’t style it and either sweep it back or leave it long.  Your hat should also be the correct size, meaning it shouldn’t cover your eyes (duh!) or give you a headache.  I love to play a bit with hats and pin brooches onto them, or tie a ribbon around them. Your step by step guide on how to do accessories …… DO have one focal point, either your clothing or your accessories. DON’T wear bold clothing with bold accessories. DO co-ordinate your shoes, bag and belt according to your outfit. DON’T be obsessive about matching shoes, your bag and belt in the exact same colour. DO wear big earrings with a dainty necklace or do a bold necklace with smaller earrings. DO tone and blend accessories. DON’T overdo it. DO wear a scarf if you have a long neck.  If you have a short neck you can wear a scarf, but ensure that your collarbone shows.  This also applies if you have a double chin. DON’T wear a scarf in a colour that does not compliment your skintone.  Especially considering that the colour is so close to your face… DO wear peeptoe shoes with opaque tights or fishnets.
