Can you believe it’s only five more sleeps until the much anticipated 2012 Vodacom Durban July? This weekend Durban will be abuzz with fashionistas from around the country, for one of SA’s biggest, most stylish horse racing events. No clue what to wear to this years’ theme, A Material World? Get a glimpse of what SA’s hottest designers have in mind with these images from the recent 2012 Vodacom Durban July Invited Designers’ Fashion Showcase … (check out the backstage makeup post I did on this event here) Accents of Gold in this Suzaan Heyns sheer spider-web paneled dress and it’s contrasting gold crystal shawl. African Prints! David Tlale’s black and white animal printed chiffon creations and an elaborate, ombre-dyed tulle shawl with cascading beaded neckpiece down the centre of the dress. Leigh Schubert’s sheer cascading cream creation flows beautifully down the runways. For the guys, Life by Andre Martin was all about denim and PVC with metal-studded black strips and accents of red. Glam Goth! Zama Mathe’s tailored sheer black chiffon & netting with beautiful lace-up backs and embellished beaded necklines. Gideon’s collection told a dramatic story of forbidden love with a mixture of cream, grey and snatches of rich scarlet and blue. We’re so excited to hear the news that local designer Leigh Schubert will be making sure that our Olympic Team this year looks just as stylish as the British Team (in their Stella McCartney Designs) and the USA team who will be dressed by Ralph Lauren. Durban based Schubert went head to head with 19 of the countries top designers in a competition and was selected the winner to dress 112 South African athletes at the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games! The 031Collection – Putting Durban Back on The Fashion Map

So last night I headed out to watch the 031Collection, a fantastical fashion event right here in my hometown, Durban. What an amazing event, so well organised, totally styled and very inspiring. As an ex Jo’burger, I’m proud to say I’m a Durbanite these days! I remember when Durban used to be T-H-E fashion mecca in South Africa, at least, when I lived in Gauteng, I thought so. Anyway, big up to Mr Price for putting Durban back on the fashion map. If this event is anything to go by, Cape Town and Joburg darlings, you’ve got some serious competition. 8 Local Legends, including; Ruff Tung, Nugini Shades, Leigh Schubert, Sibu Msimang, Amanda Laird Cherry, Terrence Bray, The Holmes Brothers and Francois Vedemme showcased their collections with Mr Price New Designer Finalists; Belinda Morgan, Hanrie Lues, Kaila Goss, Claire MacKenzie, Cindy Armstrong, Jacqui Munsumi, Gregory Dladla and Ludwig Bezuidenhout. The final is going down tonight in Durbs, and we’ll know pretty soon which new designer gets a fashion head start by designing a collection for Mr Price. It’s all happening in Durban this weekend! Yes, our brave and handsome black and white Sharks are taking on the big bad Bulls and for the fashionista’s, undoubtedly one of the most exciting fashion events ever to hit the local fashion calendar! It’s the 031 Collection and it’s proudly brought to you by Mr Price Fashion, with guest judge; the great, gorgeous and mega famous super-shmodel Agyness Deyn. As a Durbanite, I’m super excited about this event and am counting down the hours .
