A couple of weeks ago, I decided it was time to change this boring old brown hair into something edgy, something stylish and something super cool for winter. Having been numerous shades of brown before and even blond, I decided to go for red. Red, ala Kate Walsh (The Practice). Her colour is rich and luxurious – perfect for stepping out in Autumn don’t you think? For mine, I also wanted to add a little vooma with different colours to give it texture. Now, as my hair is very fine and flat, I have started to really hate highlighting it, especially on top. Every time I go for highlights I think it looks as though my hair is falling out in patches. Not a good look! The lovely Louise (Thurlow), from Zephyr Hair Design in Gillits (Durban) did my colour using the new INOA range from L’Oréal Professionnel. She is amazing! Before my colour I explained to her that I really did not want to have “patchy” looking hair and instead of highlighting it on the top, what Louise did is highlight the bottom section of hair only. Now I know this probably sounds a little weird, but when my…

Yesterday was a truly sad day for the world! One of the greatest, most iconic beauties in the business, Elizabeth Taylor passed away. We will always love this icon and today, we pay tribute to one of the most glamorous women of our time. We’ll show you, step by step, how to create modern day Cleopatra Eyes, a perfect way for you to remember the great Elizabeth Taylor and keep her look alive. Step 1 Using a light coloured eye shadow (we love Bobbi Brown Shimmer Wash Eye Shadow in Bone) cover the entire eyelid, from the lash line, all the way up to your brow bone. TIP: apply using the MAC 217 Blending Brush Step 2 Add colour to the outer corners of your lids with something striking and sexy. We love Estee Lauder Double Wear Cream Shadow in Antique Gold. Pat the colour on using your fingertips, focusing on applying most of the colour to the outer corners and blend inwards. For more intense colour, build it up in layers until you have your desired result. TIP: apply using your fingertips for best results Step 3 Add definition to your lids using a shade that has gorgeous shimmer…

This past week I’ve gone bonkers for blue. The last two days, I’ve been playing with blue nail colour in navy and oceanic shades, and today’ I’m featuring blue palettes for the eyes! The palette Feeling blue yet? Top on my list is Estee Lauder’s Double Wear Stay in Place Shadow Cream in “Blue Velvet”. The colour contrasts gorgeously with my hazel/ green eyes and because it’s a cream shadow you can expect it to last all day – and it does! I’ve recently discovered Clarins mascara and their Wonder Perfect Mascara in blue is magnificent. I even use it with other eye shadow colours and it gives my lashes great definition. Pair this with the shadow above and pencil below and you’re set! For an all blue effect, the Artist’s Eye Pencil from Estee Lauder in Blue Iris is a must! It needs only a light stroke for intense navy blue colour. So you don’t have to worry about pressing too hard on your lids. The smudge brush on the other end is also cool for blending quickly and easily. For a slightly different, wilder shade of blue I kind-a-like this colour from Rimmel Glam Eyes called “Posh Peacock”.…

Orange lips are all the rage. They’ve been spotted everywhere from designer catwalks to celebrity red carpets, to style icons from the likes of Agyness Deyn and Chloe Sevengy (need I say more?) Prada sent their models down the runway in Fanta-fabulous orange lips, while Max Mara opted for a more toned down kiss-of-coral to compliment their Spring 2010 collection. While Spring is more than a few freezing nights away in SA, local girls can still rock this trend in style and here’s how…

She’s the face of Mnet Idols and you’ll probably remember her from Idols season six. She’s a TV and radio presenter, a motivational speaker and an absolute adrenalin junkie. Seriously! Following this chick on Twitter makes me feel exhausted just reading how fit and energetic she is! But behind this tough cookie is a gorgeous girl, here’s a sneak inside the 30 year old’s beauty bag, her beauty regime and the products she loves!

Loreal has always been one of my favourite lipstick brands and I can’t tell if it’s the lovely colours or the delicious smell that I love more.  I still remember my very first Loreal lipstick, bought at the airport on the way to Greece in 1996.  I remember scraping every last bit out of the case! And thirteen years down the line I feel the same about their lipsticks… This week I got to try three new ranges from the lovely lip brand: All three of these lipstick ranges are part of the Loreal Colour Riche range which comes in a variety of shades, and when I say variety I mean variety!  The first two have also been designed to give you “a healthy glow – just like a blush” and each shade has been specially chosen to compliment your skin and hair colour too, so you can find your perfect match. You can choose fro; Loreal Colour Riche Made for me Naturals which includes 10 shades in nude and chocolate (R114.95), Colour Riche Gold which includes 23 shades available in ginger spice, Brazil nut, sable, raisin rapture (R114.95) or, my top pick, Colour Riche Gelee which comes in a…

Glam rock is a fun, sexy way to wear your makeup. Glam up the eyes and leave the lips nude for the day and then transform into a sexy siren by adding a pop of bright colour to your lips.  Lady Gaga has nailed glam-rock to perfection, with nude lips and diva eyes, but Christina Aguilera rocks it with clean, porcelin skin, dramatic eyes and intense lips. It’s easy to create the glam rock look when you have the right products.  I’ve been playing with a few brands this past week, testing them out, trying on new looks and really having fun with the whole glam-rock look, to bring you this week’s beauty feature… Rimmel London Glam Eyes Professional Liquid Liner in Aqua Glow is great for applying precision liner to your lids and the colour is simply stunning.  I really like doing the whole “carbon copy” eye with a black gel liner (see 7) and then adding a stoke of colour with this product to the outer corners.  The easy to use applicator makes it simple to use.  I also like applying just a bit of this color to the ends of my lashes lashes after applying mascara and…
