iPhoneography 2015 Contest

iPhoneography 2015 Contest

Yesterday I got to hang with the iStore and a bunch of cool kids, zipping around Jozi in fun Mini Cooper’s, snapping pics of all the pretty things, using our iPhone! Why you ask? To officially open the 2015 iStore iPhoneography Contest. If your iPhone is permanently attached to your hand and you’re always finding things to photograph, then you are an iPhoneographer, and you can get to experience your art like a real artist, thanks to the iPhoneography contest and exhibition! But before I tell you more about that, check out some of my city snaps that I posted on my Instagram (@stylescoop) and a whole lot more on my fun and random account (@dimidoodles)… We visited the Maboneng Precinct, which is any photographers dream and the amazing graffiti plastered walls of Newtown, Johannesburg. It was awesome! I got to hang with my Dubai bestie, Kelly (@x_kellyfung_x) and super cool insagrammer, Roy (@roywrench) and we snapped a bazillioon city pics. Get your art noticed! Now in its fifth year, iPhoneography encourages every iPhone user (professional or not) to get clicking, and submit their picture-perfect images into a nationwide competition. ExPOSE – Part 2: The Makeup Artist

ExPOSE – Part 2: The Makeup Artist

In Part 1 of ExPOSE, photographer Matt Raven gave us his secrets into model posing and camera tips.  In Part 2, we’ve got some great insight from makeup artist Cicilia Kaufmann. The makeup you use, and whether you choose to do it yourself or leave it in the hands of the professionals, can make a huge impact on the quality of your photos. Here are five interesting snippets of information from Cicilia, to help you get ready for your close up. 1.  Professional makeup artists use professional products which are specifically designed to photograph exceptionally.  These products ensure that your photos or video come out exactly how you intend – PERFECT 2.  The camera sees images in two dimensions, which is why often in photographs, features may appear “flat”.  Using special shading and contouring techniques, makeup artists are able to enhance and highlight facial features, making you look more striking and almost life-like. 3.  Makeup artists have a wide variety of makeup shades to suit every complexion and eye colour.  These specialist products, in addition to being hypoallergenic, will also last much longer than regular makeup that is purchased in store for everyday use.   4. A professional makeup artist…

ExPOSE – Part 1: The Photographer

ExPOSE – Part 1: The Photographer

Welcome to part one of StyleScoops 3-part-ExPOSE.  ExPOSE is a feature article-series on posing and camera tips, to help our fabulous females get camera ready.  Paparazzi watch out! This week’s ExPOSE is by Photographer extraordinaire – Matt Raven of IVOK STUDIO.  Matt has been involved in various photography projects including, weddings, band and artist profiles, family photos, restaurant images, product photography, and (most importantly) model profiles, so he really knows his stuff. Here are some expert tips from Matt: There are no hard and fast rules of what you must and must not do before a shoot.  Everybody is different.  IVOK STUDIO have tried to summarize some of the most popular tips, into a quick reference checklist,  dating down from 1 week before the shoot (can begin before that of course) until the actual shoot date. Most of the tips are pretty obvious, but hopefully there are a few that you can use… 1 Week Before Shoot: Confirm shoot with photographer, including specifics like type of shoot, deposit, outfits to bring, location & directions. Ensure that the photographer understands what you expect from the shoot. Research poses which will compliment the shoot type and you as an individual – get examples…
