Mustangs & Milkshakes

When was the last time you jumped in your car and drove? No plans, no map and no idea where you’re headed? Those “let’s see where the open road takes us” opportunities are rare, but when they happen, that’s when you find the best best kept secrets! I spent last week, just like that. Driving around in the new Ford Mustang, with no set plan and just seeing where the road leads. One of those roads (and there were many), led me to the coolest retro styled Roadhouse, where I found the best milkshakes in Jozi. Growing up in the 90’s, we didn’t have drive through fast food joints and Roadhouses were all the rage. They were also the place to go if you wanted a thick and delicious shake to wash down a seriously loaded burger, or an oozing toasted cheese. Ya know, the ones wrapped in paper with a little gherkin on top? I miss those days! So what an awesome throwback it was to find Kota Joe Roadhouse and get a blast from the past – but this time, in a true American Muscle Car. Life In Style

Going UP! On A Tuesday

This weekend I got to test drive the cute, new Volkswagen UP! The small car, with a big attitude! The UP! is VW’s compact city car, and it’s the perfect little run around car that looks as funky as it feels. Surprisingly responsive, the 55kw engine has a decent amount of power, and considering I’m used a much bigger engine, I didn’t feel deprived – only a little when overtaking on the highway. The UP! is smaller than the VW Polo, and I think it’s way cuter and funkier. It’s almost got that up and coming yuppie attitude. At 3,54 meters long and 1,64 meters wide, one of the features I loved was being able to squeeze into small parking spaces (something I can’t do in my FJ – although I usually just climb the pavement *wink*). I love the Interior. It’s got a touch of sporty funkiness and very spacious, although I did find that there is very limited console space. When I first opened the boot I was like whhhhhatt! Where am I supposed to put my shopping?! Until I discovered a hidden compartment that practically doubles up the boot space. Such a cool feature! The model I…

Cruising Around in the Toyota FJ Cruiser

Wow, I had such a blast in this car! The other day, the fab folk at Hillcrest Toyota were kind enough to loan me a Toyota FJ Cruiser for the day – just for fun! I drove it round and about Durbs, and have to admit that I am totally smitten with it’s awesomeness! I want one!!! It’s bold, it’s rugged and it’s powerful! When you get behind the wheel of this beautiful beast, you can’t help but feel the adventure junkie take over! Now, I don’t consider myself adventurous at all. I avoid roller coasters and pretty much anything that gets my adrenaline pumping – but just one day with the FJ and I feel the urge, the need, the excitement to take it crawling up some cliffs! Not that I did, I mean we only had one day together, but you know what I mean! The FJ Cruiser is all attitude! It can go-anywhere-and-do-anything (their words not mine, and I believe them)! It’s stylish and retro with a wild side that will turn heads! Expect to be noticed behind the wheel of the FJ!
