Skin Protect, Ocean Respect

Skin Protect, Ocean Respect

Over the years here on StyleScoop, I’ve mentioned the importance of sunscreen and looking after your skin. More recently, probably around the time of this post, I got a rude awakening about sun care products.

Like most people, I was unaware of the chemicals sunscreens are loaded with, that are not only bad for your own skin, but the levels of toxicity in many sun care products are wreaking havoc on our oceans.

We All Scream For Sun Screen

We All Scream For Sun Screen

When the sun comes out to play, make sure you’re protected! Every year, loads of new sunscreens are launched, so there is no excuse to go bare and damage your skin. I got to try out a few new products from three fabulous brands of sun-care. So if you’re in the market for a new sunscreen for your beach holiday or pool time this summer season, be sure to check these out. VICHY IDEAL-SOLEIL Body Spray SPF 50 Vichy make great skin care! They are one of my all time fave sun protection brands (even though they do a whole skincare range too – their sun-care is always tops in my book). For 2015, they’ve re-branded the Capital Soleil range, which is now called Vichy Ideal Soleil Bronze and I got to sample the Ideal Soleil SPF 50 Body Spray (R295 for 200ml). It contains highly effective UVA and UVB as well as Long-Wave UVA filters that protect your skin while keeping it beautiful! With a combination of Tyrosine and Caffeine, these two active ingredients act as pro-pigmenting agents in two different ways. Tyrosine boosts the production of melanin so you tan beautifully, while caffeine inhibits phosphodiesterase, which stops melanogenesis from occurring properly. Also, with the SPF body…

Get Ready for The Summer of 69

Get Ready for The Summer of 69

Sun’s out, fun’s out! I can’t wait to get rid of my ghostly white winter glow, and replace it with a sun-kissed bronzed tan! Yeah, I know, I’m bad! I love the sun and to be perfectly honest, there is nothing wrong with soaking up a little Vitamin D – if you do it the smart way that is. Back in the day, and my Mom-in-law always tells me, how they were completely unaware of the damage a little tanning could cause. To get bronzed, they’d lay in the sun, coated in olive oil! EEK! Scary stuff! Now that we’re wiser, we have an array of fantastic sun protection, which means you can enjoy a little sunshine, and minimise the risk. And since I am a total sun worshiper (the smart kind), I’ll be sharing some of my fave sun smart ways to get that glow, the healthy way. Starting off today, with Bergasol! Bergasol is not a new brand, but I’ve never tried it before, so it’s still kinda new to me. It’s been around for over 40 years, launched in the French Riviera in the Summer of ’69. It’s a brand that understands the pleasure you get from tanning and combines this with products that deliver fast, intensive, yet safe tanning solutions.…

Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream – Targeted Sun Defense Stick

Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream – Targeted Sun Defense Stick

I’ve always been a huge believer in Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream. It’s just one of those cult products that every woman loves and always keeps in her handbag. This summer though, there is a new type of Eight Hour Cream designed specially to keep your skin protected from the sun. It’s Elizabeth Arden’s new Eight Hour Cream Targeted Defense Stick and it sure beats the hell out of those lumo orange and green sunscreens the cricket players love wearing. I don’t know about you, but a bright orange or lumo  green nose is a no-no, even if you are a hottie like Graeme Smith. I don’t actually watch cricket, so I don’t know if they still do the whole lumo war paint these days, but if they do, these guys should just get themselves one of these handy little sticks and keep the sun at bay. I know I’ll be keeping one in my beach bag. It’s super small; about the same size of a lip ice tube and probably about double the width if you can picture that? It’s great to protect areas like the nose, lips, earlobes and even scars you don’t want to get darker. The stick glides on super smooth, and although the original Eight Hour Cream is quite an oily product,…

Summer Lust Lists – Samantha Laura Kaye

Summer Lust Lists – Samantha Laura Kaye

We asked the gorgeous Cape Town based professional makeup artist, slash model, slash stylist and of course beauty blogger, Samantha Laura Kaye to tell us what’s on her Summer Lust List this year. Check it out… 1) Chanel Mat Lumiere Powder Compact My favourite find of 2010 this feather-light and oil free foundation which is powder based and delivers a flawless radiant finish. It absorbs oil and sweat on the hottest of summer days and contains light reflecting pigments which minimize flaws and fine lines, making skin appear healthy and flawless without being overly powdery. The compact makes for extremely convenient and stylish touch-ups and the coverage is build-able allowing for extra cover in the areas you need it most. It contains an SPF 10 (not enough, but any SPF is rare for a powder compact) and feels luxurious and velvety on the skin unlike other powder compacts which can leave the skin feeling dry and chalky. 2) An Aubade Bikini I fell in love with Aubade lingerie earlier this year and discovered their bikinis shortly afterwards. Whilst nothing beats nude tanning (nobody likes tan lines) every lady needs a bikini that looks amazing on her. Aubade is a french…
