The Fearless Fashionista’s Fragrance Display

So where do you keep your fragrances? I like to store mine in the most unlikely places in my closet room… under my hats, next to my books, with hand bags, with shoes and where ever else  a fragrance would not normally be…

The Fearless Fashionista’s Closet Room Make over Part 3 Or

So here is part 3 and the last post on my closet room make over. – Jasna This is the other side of my the room where I have situated my desk and my clothing rail. I painted the desk white  and added a few personal touches to it. I love my green mouse pad and my pink mouse. I decided to move the clothing rail away from the window and put it behind the door. I hung some of my bags on the door along with my DFC cap.   I put my tripod next to the window so that I can take pics when my photographer is not around and hung more bags on the mirror stand. I put some of my shoes on top or along side my fashion books to add a quirky touch.     Some of my bags and shoes on the white shelves. There are 1 or 2 final items I must still find and then my closet room/studio/office room will be complete.

Messy bed, messy head!

Messy bed, messy head!

New Years Day, Ramadaan and Spring. These are just some of the events that mark the start of a new beginning. Sometimes work and life get’s the better of us and we find ourselves in need of a change mid-year. This is good, in fact I encourage it.

BRUSHing up with M.A.C – The 190 Foundation Brush

BRUSHing up with M.A.C – The 190 Foundation Brush

First things first. Let’s kick off this 11-week feature with the ultimate foundation brush, the M.A.C 190 Brush. The M.A.C 190 brush is used for applying foundation and giving you that flawless finished face (just like the pro’s do it). Many cosmetic houses use this style brush, however I personally find the M.A.C 190 brush to be one of the best ones ever (and I have used a couple).

The Monroe Dress – one dress, endless style options

The Monroe Dress – one dress, endless style options

Versatility. That’s one of my favourite words. In tough economic times (and hell, even in good ones) it is fantastic to know that you’ll get tons of wear out of one garment – being able to dress it up and down and change your look at the twist of a strap. Here’s one of my favourite summery things. I’ve called it the ‘Monroe dress’, but feel free to call it anything you wish! It’s a dress and skirt in one and so far, I’ve discovered about 10 different ways to wear it…and I’m sure there are more that you super creative fashionistas will seek out! Perfect with flats or heels, barefoot on the beach or blinged up at the bar, it’s all about accessories and the colour you choose. What I really love is that the style really does allow your own creativity and individuality to come to the fore, and lets you to change your look to suit your mood. After all, fashion really is all about experimentation and having some fun! Monroe dress available from Friends with Jenny in black and sea green (pictured). Packing for Paris and tips to travel light

Packing for Paris and tips to travel light

I’m planning my first ever trip to Paris in October. Yes darlings, I’m heading to the fashion capital of the world* in three weeks time! I’ve only bothered learning one phrase in French, “Cette robe existe-t-elle en taille 40?” Translation: “Do you have that in a size 12?” Just the thought makes me all giddy inside. Of course, as a South African there’s a little annoying matter of a Shengen visa that one has to have before crossing the channel, but it’s the least of my worries… more importantly, what the freakin’ Fendi am I going to wear!? Deciding which items of clothing are worthy of being taken along on a weekend trip is a tricky business, especially as I have this unfortunate tendency to overpack. The result is that I always find myself handing over wads of cash at the check-in counter to pay for the extra baggage weight. Not cool, especially when I spent so much time planning a budget holiday that included discount train tickets, last-minute hotel bargains, and money-saver city tours. Personally, I’d much rather have spent my money at a café along the river Seine. At the same time I have to ensure that I have…

Find the perfect hairstyle for your face shape

Find the perfect hairstyle for your face shape

So, it’s Tuesday morning and I have an appointment with my hairstylist.  But where to start? Nerve wrecking – I tell you………. Picking the right hairstyle depends on a number of factors including your face shape and the look you wish to achieve.   So, here are a few guidelines help you create a look that’s best suited for you. First you need to determine your face shape.  Tie your hair back, if necessary, and examine your face shape in front of a mirror. Decide if your face is oval, long, square, round or heart-shaped. Measure the following: width of forehead over the widest part, width of face from cheekbone to cheekbone, width of chin at the point. An oval face Show off an oval, “egg-shaped” face and balanced on top and bottom.  This is the considered ideal. Since any type of hairstyle flatters this face shape you can explore a variety of looks. Measurements: length is 1 ½ x the width of cheekbone measurement. Celebs with an oval face: Julia Roberts Long face Make a long face look shorter with hair that sits above the shoulders. Long layers work well, as do bangs. Since mid-line parts elongate the face, use…

Rock it baby

Rock it baby

This weekend, I was fortunate enough to attend the Virgin Mobile and 5FM concert, featuring Maroon 5 and other great artists.  It was such an amazing experience, and the line-up was just superb. Goldfish, The Parlatons, One Republic and Maroon5 set the stage alight with their performance.  The energy they bring to the stage is infectious and proves their truly, truly amazing personalities. After rocking it in the Golden Circle (how fabulous), I started thinking about Rock-Concert etiquette.  After All, you want to enjoy the experience, for you and  everyone around you.  So, here are some Manolo Mom, tips on how to make concert going a fabulous experience:

Step out of your style cocoon

Step out of your style cocoon

It’s Saturday, and as you know we don’t usually publish a column on the weekends – after all every girl needs a day or two to shop. But today I made an exception.  Not only because I’m sitting at home reading through my stack of girly magazines, but because yesterday, it happened again.  I tried on an outfit I “knew” wouldn’t look good on me and absolutely loved it! Its amazing how many times this has happened, not only to me but when I insist a friend tries on an outfit that she is sceptical about.

Sho-e me the shoes (Shoe storing tips)

Sho-e me the shoes (Shoe storing tips)

If I had all the money in the world, one of the things that I love to build, is a closet just like Mariah Carey’s. As you can see, Mariah is a girl who loves her shoes, and knows how to give them the proper respect they deserve.

For me, well, my entire closet (including possibly my clothes) amount to two pairs of Mariah’s shoes. Nonetheless, I would love to have a place to display all my shoes, instead of piling them on the bottom shelf of my cupboard.
