TREND REPORT: Riding Style

TREND REPORT: Riding Style

Next month, my hometown of Durban plays host to The Vodacom Durban July; one of Durban’s and SA Fashion’s hottest events! With all the hype leading to raceday, combined with a new found love for my riding boots (which I finally found after years of searching), this month’s Trend Report is all about being a stylish Equestrian. Now, as much as I love this style of dressing, I wouldn’t recommend wearing a riding-style outfit to The July – even though it would make more sense to trot around the grass laden race track in comfy flats and a jacket, instead of your sheer, backless couture designer gown and sky high heels – in winter! As for any other day, I definitely think this look rocks, even if you have no actual connection on the Mink and Manure belt. Here’s how to wear the trend… Riding Style Boots A true riding-style outfit requires a pair of fabulous flat riding boots! Riding boots are an investment and will almost always look stylish and on-trend, so it’s worth it to spend a little extra for a great quality pair that will last you a lifetime! Woolies Scoop

Woolies Scoop

Well winter may be upon us, but the one great thing we can look forward to is all the fab fashion heading our way! I was at Woolies the other day scouting for ideas for my Woolies Scoop, and got completely overwhelmed by the gorgeous selection of clothing for winter, specifically their pants and maxi skirts! After spending months in dresses and shorts I wasn’t looking forward to going back to boring old pants, but as you’ll see in this post, the selection of trendy and affordable bottoms at Woolworths this season are anything but boring! Printed Leggings Printed leggings are a huge trend and offer a great alternative to plain black leggings! Pair them with brights and you’ve really got a stand out outfit that makes a style statement! Get it: These grey houndstooth printed leggings (R225) are great for winter and offer an alternative way to wear classic houndstooth, especially if the black and white graphic print of traditional houndstooth is too much for you. These have a supportive waistband and offer enough stretch to give your legs a streamlined look. Wear it: I love how blogger Ewelyn from modishyou.blogspot.com has paired her stylish printed leggings with a bright red blazer, silky purple top and ankle…

Trend Report: Turning Scarves into Cute Summer Tops

Trend Report: Turning Scarves into Cute Summer Tops

In case you missed last weeks’ awesome Trend Report, here’s how you can turn your scarves into cute summer tops and expand your wardrobe for less! I don’t know about you, but I love scarves and belts! I find that they really help to inject a unique style into your outfit, setting it apart from how everyone else might be wearing it. Plus, they are generally inexpensive which means you can always be on trend. Scarves and belts have many uses. One of the ways I’ve been wearing them lately is by turning them into unique, flowy tops – perfect for summer! It’s so simple, you will be amazed at the amount of looks you can create with a cute scarf and a skinny belt. To show you how simple and easy this look is to pull off, I popped into Woolies last week where I found the cutest scarves. They always have a beautiful selection of trendy scarves and with prices so low; you can afford to be trendy! Although Woolies had a whole selection of belts and tanks to choose from, I absolutely loved this pink leather belt from Suga Suga (R120). This belt is ideal for creating…

Wear the Trends Six Ways with Fashion Blogger Sydne Summer

Wear the Trends Six Ways with Fashion Blogger Sydne Summer

A few days ago, fashion blogger @sydnesummer tweeted  “How I celebrated the last day of summer“. In South Africa, we’re heading into the glorious season of sun and sand, and so I was immediately intrigued by the title. I clicked only to find myself hooked on her website, ThinkThruFashion.com and her super cool ttF Fashion Staples Series for hours. Sydne blogs every day, showcasing stylish ways to wear six key items she picks out every month. Last month her focus was on an August Safari.  Her six key items included a tribal necklace, a military jacket, a canvas belt, an olive dress, a taupe bag and gorgeous snakeskin wedges. The aim of her ttF Fashion Staples Series is to show you how to make the most of what you’ve got in your wardrobe. Every day Sydne wears one of her monthly staples and blogs her outfit. At the end of the month, she posts a recap and shows you how to wear each of the six items at least six different ways. This is a great way to get inspired with different ways to wear your outfits and the six items staple is the perfect blueprint to make sure you wear the seasons key trends. Think…

TREND REPORT – Chanel’s new “it” nail colour – Black Pearl for Spring/ Summer 2011

TREND REPORT – Chanel’s new “it” nail colour – Black Pearl for Spring/ Summer 2011

Tomorrow sees the nationwide launch of Chanel’s new Spring/ Summer 2011 makeup collection. A collection of shades that will make your heart melt!  I know we’re still stuck in Spring/ Summer 2010, but our friends on the other side of the equator are ahead of us, and thankfully we can still indulge in their pleasures! We’re totally smitten with Black Pearl, the new “it” colour from this collection that was seen on the catwalk of the Chanel Spring/ Summer 2011 show. You know when a Chanel catwalk features a colour, it’s pretty safe to say that colour will become the most coveted colour in the land.

TREND REPORT – Crossover/ Messenger Bags

TREND REPORT – Crossover/ Messenger Bags

Welcome to our first Trend Report for 2011. I thought we’d start this years’ Trend Report with a trend that I’m loving at the moment – Crossover bags. Seen everywhere and loved by A-Listers such as Sienna Miller, Reese Witherspoon and Christina Ricci (to name a few), crossover bags are stylish and convenient. Who said fashion can’t be fabulous and functional? Crossover bags are also a shopping spree’s best friend, as they allow you to enjoy the experience without having to worry about your bag. They are also safer than bags on your shoulders and are perfect for travelling. Sienna Miller wears this trend so well. She looks almost effortless and at the same time totally pulled together. A pair of skinny Levi’s in their new Curve ID worn with an over-sized tee and cardigan, paired with metallic gladiator flats and stylish sunnies and you’re Sienna-set! Editors Pick: Vintage Re-Issue Flap Crossbody by Fossil R1,899.00 Oversized crossover bags chic and stylish and can even hide a full belly after lunch – smart thinking! I love Christina Ricci’s tan bag, but Reese Witherspoon’s messenger style bag with flap a is my fave. Editors Pick: Jekyll & Hyde organic leather bag in…

The Turn up Jeans Trend – Gotta Love it!

The Turn up Jeans Trend – Gotta Love it!

Turning up your jeans is a quick and easy way to update your look without spending too much. It looks chic and trendy and I also recently discovered that one pair of turn up jeans make the prefect anywhere-outfit – ideal for packing in your holiday bag. Wear them with flats or heels, boots (as Dolce and Gabbana did for their Spring/ Summer 2010 collection) or my personal favourite, with gladiator sandals or gladiator/ cut out platform pumps, you just cant go wrong! Turned up jeans works well on skinnies and straight leg styles, as well as certain regular/ tapered cuts. The ones you want to avoid turning up are your boot cut jeans as they just look bulky, and well, strange! Here are some brilliant basics that can work so many different styles. The jeans featured above are my new favourites, Levis Demi Cut straight leg jeans in Indigo blue. Indigo is great colour for the turn up trend, as the inside colour of your jeans gives it a rather nice contrasting effect. Pair them with killer platform cutous (from Aldo of course) and a simple tee and you’re 100% on trend. I love this “I heart ViNYl” one…

It’s Playtime! Tried Trend – Playsuits

It’s Playtime! Tried Trend – Playsuits

Yesterday, I popped past Gateway and saw that Forever New is finally open (YAY)! While I did manage to stop myself from spending money (this time around as the store was just too full) – I did notice that nearly every single one of the sales girls was wearing a playsuit. Playsuit, all in one, jump suit, rompers – call it what you will, but one thing is for sure – it’s a huge trend right now and I’m not entirely sure how I feel about it. Don’t get me wrong or anything, I mean I love it on them (some at least). One girl looked adorable in a blue floral playsuit with stilettos. But then again she was about 5 foot tall and had pin straight legs – The perfect all in one for her petite frame. It took some time to convince myself, but I finally picked one off the rack and headed towards the fitting room.
