Live in linen

I live in linen and have such a love affair with this beautiful, natural fabric that I wanted to chat about what makes linen so special. We’ll talk about everything, including creases and care, why the price tag, and I’ll also share some of my favourite linen pieces to have and to own.

Out in Africa! My “Safari Outfit” and our Adventure in the Bush

Out in Africa! My “Safari Outfit” and our Adventure in the Bush

I’ve just returned from the most incredible bush adventure! Four days out in Africa, getting up close and personal with all her beautiful creatures, just roaming around a few inches from the protection of our Landrover. Before our trip, I popped into Old Khaki (of course) to pick out some bush-ready, summer-ready and style savvy pieces and I couldn’t resist this gorgeous fringed Cardi. Isn’t it just the cutest summer cover-up? It was perfect for our evening game drives! Since I had bush veld on the brain, by pure stroke of luck and perfect timing, I also found this floppy bush hat while I was there, which was just the cherry on top! It will defs become my bush adventure staple from now on! I wore it on almost every game drive and it kept me cool, protected from the sun and thanks to the little drawstring I didn’t lose it. And the colour… perfecto! Look at that frrrrriiiinge! Obsessed! We had such a blast! This was part of our group racing to catch the lioness before she moved away on our last game drive evening. We were incredibly blessed to have seen it all… We spotted the entire big five entourage… Lions, Leopard, Buffalo, Elephant and Rhino, as well as a whole lot more. I wasn’t too fond…

Forever New, Cote d’Azur Summer Collection

Forever New, Cote d’Azur Summer Collection

[tps_header] The Forever New Cote d’Azur collection launched in stores this week and let me tell you gals, it’s probably my favourite Forever New collection to date. It’s got all the elements of elegance, refined style and glamour without being overly racy or too seductive. Think Hollywood’s golden era, redefined in classic, modern day silhouettes with playful prints and very ladylike finishes. Midi skirts, lace, crop tops, soft fabrics and scallop details. The collection was inspired by the beautiful blue Azure waters that reflect the golden sunshine, so the prominent colours for this collection are buttercup yellow, porcelain white and Mediterranean blue. I popped into store to check it out and it’s such a beautiful collection, with very versatile pieces that can be mixed and matched to create show stopping looks for any occasion. To give you gals some inspiration behind the collection, I put together three looks for three different occasions… Off Duty Ladylike I fell hopelessly in love with this gorgeous buttercup skirt. It has the power to make you feel like a Hollywood starlet. This look is the perfect little day outfit for high tea with the girls, or lunching with your man on the weekends. Soft,…

Skirts in Full Swing

Skirts in Full Swing

I’m trying to step out of my style comfort zone. For a girl who wears jeans-jeans-and-more-jeans, it’s a hard thing to do. Trust me! Lately, full swing midi skirts have really caught my eye. They look so glam, effortless and stylish. So, when I spotted this beaut at Forever New, hesitant at first, I tried it on and fell in love with it! Everything about it is perfecto! The cut is very flattering on my frame. The high waist doesn’t make me look short and frumpy (which happens to me with midi skirts) and I love that it’s not solid black. The horizontal “burnout” stripes give it a nice vintage feel, and keep it looking stylish! Here’s a few virtual looks I’ve put together on how I’d style this fabulous skirt… Ladylike Lace Crop Top: Forever New. Snakeskin Laceup Heels: ZARA. My favourite way to style a full midi skirt like this one, would be with lace up heels! I love the effect the laces give to this skirt and transform it from 50’s style to modern glam. Then, to keep it ladylike, I’d pair it with a pretty lace crop top, tucked in to reveal the beautiful waistband of the skirt. Monochrome Plain White…

The “Wear With Anything” Little Denim Vest

The “Wear With Anything” Little Denim Vest

So obsessed with denim shirts/ jackets, and as we head into summer, definitely loving my little denim vest or deinim gilet! I bought the most gorgeous little denim vest from Bershka while I was in Greece, and have been finding so many different ways to wear it. I tell you, it’s the ultimate closet must-have to snazzy up any outfit. I wore it non stop on holiday and it was great for a night out when I wanted to look “smarter” but not be too smart. I was after-all, on holiday! There are a ton of ways to wear it! My fave is to pair it with a girly dress. I am a girly-girl, but I also like dressing with a bit of an edge, so adding this little number to an otherwise plain dress, really makes it more my style! I also love wearing it with an all black ensemble and killer heels. And of course, finishing it with loads of ring bling and arm candy! Another way I could rock it is with my H&M weaved skirt, that I also can’t wait to wear this summer! I tried out this outfit with a different Gilet (since it was a bit longer), but both could work just…

The Tribe Has Spoken! New IN, H&M Woven Skirt

The Tribe Has Spoken! New IN, H&M Woven Skirt

For once in my life, I saw something worn by one of the blogs I follow, and could actually drive to H&M (coz you know, I was in Greece) and get it! I was so amped! Now all that’s left, is to lose the 3 (blooming, bladdy, friggin) kilos I gained eating Gyro’s in Greece and I then I can rock my new baby! My Inspiration

Classic Style: Stripes {Shop the Look}

Classic Style: Stripes {Shop the Look}

Happy 4th July to all my American readers! To fit in with today, I wanted to do a little post on stripes! Since stripes are one of those Classic Style items, it’s definitely worth it to invest in some stylish stripes that suit your individual style! I’ve always been afraid of stripes, but when you find “the right” stripe to suit you, you just can’t go wrong! Now I’m hooked! I think the key to wearing stripes is to make sure the top (and I’m sticking to tops as striped bottoms are a no-no unless you’re super skinny!) is to ensure that the fit is not super tight. Stripes look their best when they are effortless and flowy, not when they are stretched across your body! If you must, a size bigger is always an option. Don’t be afraid to buy a bigger size! If it bothers you that much, just cut off the label – no one will know and you’ll look better – promise! Another key to shopping for striped tops, is to ensure that the stripes run all the way around. One of my pet peeves is stripes that do not match up in the front and back of tops!  I recently…

All White, All Right! How To Wear White Without Looking Boring

All White, All Right! How To Wear White Without Looking Boring

Wearing all white is no longer a trend reserved for Spring and Summer. You can see white on white year round, worn in a very imaginable way. Personally, I don’t own many white items of clothing, but I do own enough to mix and match. And that’s the point of this post, to give you a few ideas on how you can wear all white without looking boring. Here are my tips for wearing All White: Head-To-Toe White I love how Rumi Nelly of Fashiontoast is wearing white from head to toe! Don’t be afraid to try this. Just make sure that the proportions at the top and bottom are well balanced. Also, make sure that the white shoes you choose don’t look old and matronly. Accessorize! In the picture above, I am wearing white jeans and a white peplum top. It’s a very simple look. What makes this look stand out is the accessorizing. I have accessorized with a floral printed bag, pink heels & a statement necklace. By adding pops of colour or a print to you accessories, you are able to give the all white look some depth and create interest. Monochrome Black & White I love monochromatic…

It’s all Black and White! Monochrome Madness

It’s all Black and White! Monochrome Madness

If there is one massive trend that will take us through the whole of 2013, it’s monochrome. We’ve seen it on the runways in Paris, New York and Milan, and the trend works well for most major seasons, S/S and A/W. Easily put, monochrome in fashion is simply mixing white and black in your outfit. It can be achieved in one of two ways; blocking the white and black and adding white or black accessories OR using a white and black pattern on one or both halves of your body. I do recommend that the prints you opt to use for the monochrome trend should be structured prints; such as stripes, hounds tooth, herringbone, or polka dots. I don’t think black and white prints like floral and paisley work well at all. Look how these bloggers are rocking the monochrome trend… Sydne from Sydne Style | Chiara from from The Blonde Salad | Local lovely, Carlin from Superficial Girls. Getting the look is easy! Mr Price, which IMO is by far the most fabulous low-cost retailer, has some really amazing items that you can use to make up your monochrome ensembles. I’ve always lived by the principle of paying big…

Sneak Peek at Edgars’ Winter Range – Coming Soon

Sneak Peek at Edgars’ Winter Range – Coming Soon

A few weeks ago, I attended the launch of Edgars’ HAUTE Winter 2013 at Melrose Arch. The entire store had been pre-setup to give fashion editors a complete look at the winter range that will be on offer this year. Named, Fashion Avenue; it’s the place where high fashion resides, anything can happen and there is a surprise around every corner! I am really excited for winter, and while I’m a summer girl through and through, winter is really a fun season to play dressup! I was totally smitten with about 90% of the collection, which means you’re likely to spot me shopping up a storm at Edgars soon! Thank goodness for accounts! I’ll let my pics do the talking, however expect to see lots of grape, biker, leather-look pieces, coloured skinnies, flower power, cosy layers, shades of black and grey, prints, knits and my favourite, leggings (plain and patterned). For boots and shoes, expect to see ankle boots, biker boots, the wedge sneaker (a hot winter trend), pumps, courts and the ever-popular brogue. Cross body bags and lady like bags are season staples, but make sure you keep an eye out for bags with studded details to keep you…
