Toasty Toes

Toasty Toes

We don’t think twice about to forking out thousands on killer heels and hot boots, yet when it comes to our most worn footwear- that being slippers, we cut corners and buy those cheap and nasty once-off’s that just end up in a landfill (another reason to cringe).

NO MORE! In today’s blog, I’m talking all things FLUFFY FOOTWEAR, focusing on great quality, locally made sheepskin slippers that are a treat for your feet!

Hello June! Hello Winter in South Africa! I hope you’re all keeping warm and managing with the cold weather? As always, with the start of a new month, I like to put together a list of all the things I want. And with winter on our doorstep, these are the things I want to snuggle up to this month…

My Winter Bodycare Edit

My Winter Bodycare Edit

Prevention is better than cure! That’s why I like to get my skin ready for winter by adding a few products into my daily routine! Sure it takes a little extra work, but since this our second winter back in Jozi (Durban doesn’t really get all that cold), I’ve mastered what my skin needs and I don’t want to be caught off guard again… Dry patchy shoulders and dead skin, I’m talking to you!

Sweater Weather Faves – The Fringed Knit

Sweater Weather Faves – The Fringed Knit

Yay for sweater weather! Hands up if you’re as excited to bundle up in cozy knits as I am! And if you’re throwing your arms up in the air, what better way to do it than in this gorgeous, cozy knit “Precious Sweater” from Old Khaki? Just look at that fringe! I am obsessed! Since most knitted sweaters look a little boxy (on me at least), I found that the best way to balance it out, is to layer it over a pretty collard shirt worn with skinny jeans – perhaps even add a statement necklace to the mix. I wore my Precious Sweater the other day with a light wash denim shirt, dark wash skinny jeans, tan boots and it made for a perfect, pulled together winter look. Today, I went for a more muted palette, and paired my Precious Sweater with an extra long, viscose beige shirt, black leggings and my lived in Minnetonka Tramper boots. Then just stacked a few simple bracelets. I love the different textures of this knit. It gives it such a cozy, fluffy and beautiful effect, but I’d be lying if I didn’t say that it was the fringe that totally stole my heart! Get your Precious Knit from Old Khaki now (R499). I.…

The Cold is Coming #OOTD

The Cold is Coming #OOTD

Slowly but surely, winter is creeping up on us, and I’m excited for a change of clothing scenery! This weekend, when the temperature dropped (and the rain came out to play), I thought it was the perfect opportunity to wear my new Puffer jacket. I’d been looking for a black, coat style puffer jacket for ages. So when I spotted this beaut at Old Khaki, I just had to have it! I love the gold hardware (zip and press buttons) and that the zip zips both ways. But I really love the detachable faux fur hoodie. Most puffer jackets can make you look, well, puffy, but this one has a clever little drawstring tie at the back that cinches in the waist to give you a nice, feminine silhouette. Such an investment piece that I know I’ll get tons of wear out of! Outfit Details Puffer Jacket – The Ivanah from Old Khaki (R1299) Rain Boots – Hunter Leggings – Cotton On There’s a couple more things from Old Khaki that I still have my eye on. The Burberry Poncho

The Burberry Poncho

What could be more coveted than owning an iconic Burberry Trench? Well, it seems a monogrammed Burberry Poncho or Blanket is the winter accessory to have and to hold. First seen on the Autumn Winter 2014 Prorsum runway, Burberry’s Colour Block Check Blanket Poncho has been spotted on the streets by Suki Waterhouse, Victoria Beckham, SJP, Rosie Huntington-Whitely, Cara Delevingne and Alexa Chung – to name a few. Inspired by the traditional equestrian blanket; with blanket-stitched edging and a warm, hard-wearing textured feel Burberry Ponchos come in a range styles with archival and modern influences. But what makes these pieces even more coveted? Burberry monogramming, which allows customers to personalise their Poncho with three initials in the Burberry font. I don’t know about you gals, but I want one! Images Courtesy Burberry (used with permission)

Weekend Layering {outfit}

Weekend Layering {outfit}

Towards the end of the season, I always feel uninspired to go shopping for new clothes! I guess you could say, that I’m over winter and all I can think about is summer. So I really don’t want to spend money on more bulky winter clothes. Even though, I still need to dress warm. So what do you do?! Layer! I found the most amazing tops for layering at Old Khaki the other day. They are lightweight and perfect for layering, but would also make great pieces on their own to wear in the Spring. I especially LOVE the cream cut out 3/4 top! I can see it being worked into many outfit options. Picture it layered over a crisp, white shirt with an amazing collar! YES Cream Daisy Cut & Sew 3/4 Sleeve Top (R350) from Old Khaki. Navy and Milk Striped Top (R299) from Old Khaki. Jeans, GAP 1969 Thunderstruck always straight jeans, snood (old) from Old Khaki, Sneakers – Converse, Bag – Knomo

Combat Winter Hair Static

Combat Winter Hair Static

I wont lie! I’m not loving my hair in Jozi winters! The colder it gets, the warmer I dress, the more my hair stands up like the bride of Frankenstein! I’ve searched high and low and done “everything” to try keep the frizz down and for the first couple of weeks, nothing worked! But I kept searching, and I have finally found my fix! It’s a combination of a few things, but this combo really works. It’s really dry in Jozi, and the dryness doesn’t help with my hair. When I first moved here, Chantelle, AKA Not Another Poppie suggested that I “just get a humidifier” and not wait, since it was needed in Jozi. It took me a while, but I eventually got one, and it’s really made a difference in my hair (and my skin for that matter). I’ve only had it a for a few days, but it’s a great little helper. After I wash my hair, I add a little bit of Moroccanoil to it while it’s damp. Then, I use a little bit more to smooth down the ends after I’ve dried and ironed it. Don’t laugh! This step is probably the game changer that made all the difference.…

Time To Travel

Time To Travel

You guys! I recently got the most amazing news ever! Next week, little old me, will be jet setting to the UK (first time ever) to check out the latest offering from River Island. The brand launches in South Africa this month (thanks Edgars) and later on, in September, the doors to the first South African River Island Concept store will open! I am so excited that I’ll be getting a first look at what will be on offer, and of course, I’ll share with you guys! I’m also really excited about going to London! Woo Hoo! What to wear?! What to take?! What to See?! Where to Shop?! Questions, questions, so many questions… But the ultimate thing on my mind right now is travelling and getting packed! Of course, I’ll be travelling with my TUMI, but here are some other exciting items from the latest TUMI Fall 2014 collection that I would just D-I-E to get my hands on to take with… As you probably know, I am obsessed with organising and packing is no exception! I’ve been overseas a couple of times (and locally about a bazillion), and every time I get a little better at packing. And these goodies from the TUMI Journey collection are right…

All Knitted Out

All Knitted Out

Now that I am back to being a Jozi gal (once again), having lived in Durbs for the past ten years, I never really felt the need to “bundle up”, so I got rid of all my “proper winter” clothes. I mean winter in Durban is pretty awesome and you don’t need more than a light cardi! Now that I’m back in the City of Gold, I can feel the chill of winter starting, and can’t help but feel excited about being able to rock this seasons hottest winter knits! Like these from Old Khaki. Obsessed with this Ombre Pink “Sofia” pullover I found at Old Khaki.  The colour is amazing! It’s so versatile and you can practically wear it with anything! Take a closer look! Isn’t it pretty?! This jumper has an 18% wool content, which keeps you nice and warm, plus it looks really good! Love the rows and rows of plaits and the Old Khaki branded disk in the corner. The fit is really nice (especially for a knit which can be tricky). The longer length at the back means you can wear it with leggings, but my all time favourite, is to wear it with jeans and nude shoes. Jeans: GAP, Ankle Booties: Charles & Keith, Sunglasses: Giorgio Armani…
