Coffee Snobbery 101

Some of the greatest things happen to you when you sip on your morning coffee! You feel awake, you feel inspired, but then again that’s probably because you’re reading your favourite blog! StyleScoop! I have a confession to make! I’m a coffee snob! And I’m proud of it! I love my coffee, but I won’t can’t drink instant, even if its “premium brands” like Jacobs or Nescafe! I blame my husband, who about five years ago bought us a makoi coffee machine that grinds our morning coffee, fresh from beans! Since then, I think I’ve had about five cups of yucky instant coffee, and not becuase I wanted, to but rather, becuase I had to! I am so bad, that when I go to people’s houses and they offer coffee, I hope and pray that I’ll find a coffee machine sitting on their kitchen counter! Even a filter coffee machine will do. Otherwise, I’m good with tea – thank you very much! Coffee snobbery starts with instant (sadly, we have to start somewhere), it progresses to buying a bodum, then a coffee perculator, and then, you progress to full-on coffee snob when you go for one of those fancy Nespresso…

Make a Perfect Mediterranean Frappé with This Awesome Gadget

I’ve been dreaming about Frappé since we got back from our summer holiday in Greece this August. We literally drank these 24/7, day and night! Since being back in SA, I have yet to find a restaurant or coffee shop that offers Frappé on their menu, so when I found this little Gadget at the Homemakers Expo last weekend, I was a happy Scoopie once again! It’s called the Aerolatte and it’s the first-ever invented steam milk frother that opperates using batteries. It’s perfect for frothing up milk for you cappuccino, but it’s the ideal tool to whip up your very own Mediteranean-style Frappé. Now, for those of you that don’t know what Frappé is, it’s pretty much a cold coffee drink that is made by whipping instant coffee, sugar and a small amount of water into a froth, then throwing in some ice cubes and topping it up with ice cold water. Then, enjoyed through a straw. It’s not difficult to make, but can be a mission getting it right if you don’t have the right tools! In Greece, of course, they have hundreds of Frappé making tools and Nescafe has even come up with their own version of Frappé instant coffee granules. Couture Coffee with Nespresso

I’ll admit, I’m a bit of a coffee snob. So much in fact that I just can’t drink your normal every day instant “stuff” anymore. The thing is, when you’ve been drinking the “real deal” for over a year, you just can’t fool your mind (or taste buds) into thinking that instant coffee tastes good. It’s not that I’m too good to drink it, I just don’t like it. So, when I was given the opportunity to test drive the fancy Schmancy Nespresso coffee machine, I was more than happy to take on the task. I was however, a little worried that I wouldn’t enjoy the taste, seeing as my coffee standards are already set quite high. After using this machine for a week, I can safely say that we had a fantastic relationship together. I was even a little sad to see her go. Besides the absolutely delicious coffee it makes, the machine itself is also very stylish and fits in perfectly with my kitchen. It’s kinda retro chic.
