JellO’s Baby! Vintage Lip Tins From Lip Ice

JellO’s Baby! Vintage Lip Tins From Lip Ice

Oh, how I love these cute little retro, vintage-style lip tins from Lip Ice! Lip Ice JellO’s is a brand new lip balm that comes packaged so pretty in a cool vintage tin. It’s available in a trio of flavours including; original, cooling mint and cherry. The new formula of lip balm in these tins combines nourishing petroleum jelly and little beads of vitamin E to give your lips some summer lovin’, keeping them soft and smooth all summer long! They are great little tins to keep in your handbag, office desk or cubby hole. Lip Ice has been around since 1965 and as everyone knows is an iconic brand in lip care! Look out for Lip Ice Jello’s in store for only R16.99 each! I’m in love with all three, it’s difficult for me to pick a favourite.

Decor Monday – Thrifty Shopping Blogs

Decor Monday – Thrifty Shopping Blogs

I’ve been hooked on thrifty shopping blogs lately. They are so much fun and you can really find some really interesting pieces, that is if you can snap them up in time! Here are some of my fave local, South African thrifty shopping blogs… Lulu Shop www.lulushop.co.za Lulu is a great Durban based online shopping blog run by Irene Woodhams. Irene has been collecting thrifty finds for the past 35 years and has filled her home with all things cute, quirky and thrifty. She sells cute vintage items from luggage to lampshades, handbags to furniture. These items are posted on her blog and you can email her when an item catches your eye. Take a look at her blog or try out her homemade apple tart recipe – yum! Mooi Boutique mooi-mooiboutique.blogspot.com Mooi is a vintage store in Glenwood Durban. Their blog is full of cool thrifty finds and stuff available in their shop. I plan on visiting this spot soon to stock up on some treasures. The Thrift Collection thethriftcollection.blogspot.com The Thrift Collection is a blog by Pippa Lynch – local stylist and jewellery buyer by day and forager by night. Pippa snaps up the cutest vintage finds and…

Fab Finds at the I Heart Market

Fab Finds at the I Heart Market

This weekend was the last I Heart Market in Durbs for 2011. A gorgeous day to market and as always, filled with fabulous finds… Here’s a lil sneak peek at what I snapped up… Macaroons There is no doubt about it, Daniela’s Macaroons are Deliciously Decadent. Girl really knows how to make your mouth water! Her macaroons are the very best, soft and creamy centres sandwiched between delicious melt-in-your mouth meringue. Beautifully presented in this box and at R60 a pop (for six macaroons) it ain’t cheap, but man oh man are they good. I loved how the girls at the stand were giving me tips to keep them fresh, Hah! Ya right! Like they would really last that long :P. Don’t Fake it Bake it I got this cute fabric print from ikhayastore’s stall. I love it to bits and think it will look great in my kitchen. I have a huge “Keep Calm and Carry On” sign in my office, but this one is perfect for the kitchen. It’s made by Mia Widlake and it’s actually a dish cloth! But it’s too pretty for that! I plan on hanging it on my kitchen wall – just as soon…

Decor Monday – Vintage Hat Boxes

Decor Monday – Vintage Hat Boxes

I’m obsessed with vintage hat boxes. They are so girly so very cute, why don’t women use these anymore? They make great decor pieces for closets, bedrooms, bathrooms and even living spaces. I want to start getting some really old ones (with loads of character) to start displaying in my closet room. They are too pretty and make great storage spaces too! I’I bought this one from Lulu Shop, an online thrift blog based in Durban that I want to use it to store and display my clutch purses. – Oh, speaking of closet room, stay tuned for my updated blog on it soon. This week I painted my cupboards, got a white fluffy rug and a new ottoman… I’ll also show you how I plan to use my hat box! PS – If you find any cool vintage hat boxes for sale online or in thrift stores, please comment below and let me know xo Dimi

Out with the old, in with the (almost) new

Out with the old, in with the (almost) new

You know what they say, one man’s trash is another man’s treasure, right?  How about clothes?  Vintage is a fairly new fashion buzzword and in my opinion, a great way to make old, used clothes more fashion-fab rather than trailer-park-drab. What would you rather say; “I love mixing vintage pieces with jeans” or “I love wearing these old jeans that I bought from a jumble sale (remember those) at my neighbours trailer”? Yeah exactly! When you think of used clothes, old comes to mind.  However used clothes do not have to look ratty and drab, in fact they don’t have to be that old at all.  Think about how many things you’ve bought an item, worn it once and shoved into the back of your closet?  Oftentimes the only reason people get rid of clothes, besides wanting to make space for new items, is because they have either worn the piece to death, outgrown it or the item has lost it’s appeal.  That doesn’t mean that the appeal is lost to everyone though. The other day I got an email from Tonia Zorbas, who is part of a great South African project called Fashion Exchange.  It’s a local company that…
