Smokey eye secrets from Eduardo Ferreira

Every girl wants to know how to get that smokey, sultry eye and last night I discovered that it really isn’t that hard.

I got to watch Bobbi Brown’s right hand man, Eduardo Ferreira in action at the official opening of the Bobbi Brown counter at Edgars Gateway, where I picked up a few interesting tips from the man who makes so many women look gorgeous.

It was a fabulous event, complete with yummy treats, bubbly and of course being able to try out lots of makeup and getting advice from the Brown team on how to DIY the perfect application.

Among many looks, Eduardo demonstrated how to get the natural beauty, smokey eye effect on the gorgeous Amber. Unfortunately my little hand-held camera decided it needed it’s own beauty sleep, but thankfully I had my Blackberry (and Hot-Spotting columnist Chia) on hand to snap some action shots.

Here’s a pic of Amber with no makeup on

Eduardo started by creating a clean canvas; using Bobbi Brown’s Tinted Moisturizer instead of foundation and touching it up with the Bobbi Brown Foundation Stick –  dabbing only the areas where “you need cover”- the area around the nose and chin – before finally blending it all in using a foundation brush.

The results were amazing. Amber looked flawless, young and fresh without looking “made up”. Eduardo says the worst thing you can say to a woman is “I love your foundation” because that would mean you can see the foundation.

For the smokey eye affect, Eduardo started with a simple, highlighting eye shadow that was suitable for Amber’s skin tone. He applied it with makeup brush all over the eye lid, right up to the brow. He then used (my favourite product), Bobbi Brown’s Liquid Gel Liner. Using an ultra fine brush, he applied a thin line on the upper lash line, close to the lashes. Don’t worry about being accurate and perfect when drawing your line.

He then took a smudging brush and lightly went over the gel application, smoothing it out and blending it so that it didn’t look harsh. Next, Eduardo applied a small amount of Bobbi Brown’s Metallic Long Wear Cream in Black Pearl (a sparkling, purpley shadow) on the entire upper eye lid. This product, I have to have – sadly they were out of stock.

Eduardo says that when doing a smokey eye, dont try to change the shape of your eye – rather work with what you have – keeping it natural, yet enhanced. So ladies, don’t go smoking out the sides. Stop your eye shadow colour where your eye lid ends.

He finished off the look with a slick of mascara, a little Bobbi Brown Eye Brightening cream – just under the eyes – and a slick of gloss. The result… GORGEOUS!
