A Holidaymakers Guide to “Do Durban”

I recently had a lovely little break in my old city, Durban. While I was there, soaking in the winter sunshine – (yep, like true Joburger’s we spent most of our time at the beach – in winter noggal) – it reminded me of how amazing Durbs is. Having lived there for 10 years as a local, I had forgotten what made Durban such a gem! Granted, when you live somewhere, going on holiday to the same place is a totally different experience. So, it was nice to Do Durban firstly as an adult (without parents on holiday, where you can do your own thing) and secondly as a holiday maker with nothing on the agenda. If you find yourself in Durbs, here’s my little travel guide on what you should include on your holiday fun… DO: The Beach Of course! Durban has the best beaches in South Africa, and I’m not just saying that because I used to live there! While I wont deny that Cape Town has beautiful beaches, the freezing Atlantic Ocean on that side of the country (plus the wind almost all the dang time) kinda puts me off going to the beach in Cape Town.…

Tommy Hilfiger Stripes – OOTD

Tommy Hilfiger Stripes – OOTD

I’m a total sucker for stripes! And nobody does stripes better than the king of stripes, Tommy Hilfiger. Red, blue and white are quintessentially Tommy and they are such beautiful shades for summer. This Tommy Hilfger satchel, is such a beaut! Those striped edges give it that extra special touch and it’s a great bag for day and night, weekend or office! And I know you’re all wondering about these shoes right… Aren’t they something to swoon over? They would have been perfect for this look, but I decided last minute to wear my wedges instead as I didn’t want to risk ruining them walking along the Durban promenade. But I mean…. They are gorgeous aren’t they? Thanks to Stuttafords, you can find your Tommy fix in store, or at the stand alone Tommy Hilfiger or Tommy Hilfiger Denim stores in Sandton City. Outfit Details Dress: Tommy Hilfiger Inez Bleached Denim Dress Bag: Tommy Hilfiger Chilli Pepper Satchel Wedges: Via Uno (old) Sunglasses: Prada Foldable Sunglasses Necklace: Lucky Brand

A Day of Spoils at Brigit Filmer Spa

A Day of Spoils at Brigit Filmer Spa

Remember I tweeted about my very hectic, jam packed day last week Tuesday? Well today, I’ll tell you all about it! I was lucky enough to experience a Spa Day at one of my fave Spa’s in the country, Brigit Filmer Spa. I have been before, but only for a facial. This time I got to experience the Spa the way one should experience a spa, in complete bliss! When I arrived at Brigit Filmer Spa, I was greeted with friendly faces, a warm towel and freshly squeezed orange juice. From there, I was taken to the ladies room where a locker (which even had my name on it) was ready and waiting for me. After I had a quick shower, I changed into my swimsuit and snugly Brigit Filmer Spa gown, and was taken up to the Hydrotherapy area. It had been booked out just for me and I spent an hour enjoying it. There was lunch waiting for me; a magnificent chicken salad fit for a King! I couldn’t finish it, even though I really wanted to glup it all down. After lunch I spent the rest of the hour enjoying the Hydrotheraphy area, all by myself and in complete…

Lou Harvey Bags Are TOTES Amazing!

Lou Harvey Bags Are TOTES Amazing!

I must be living under a rock! I mean seriously, how long has it taken me to get my hands on Lou Harvey, the awesome brand of cute and eye catching bags?! Last week, I accidentally discovered the Lou Harvey factory shop in Hillcrest. I was as excited as waiting for the Tooth Fairy! I went to this kitchen supply store (I’m not even sure what it’s called), which I have been to many times before, looking for vases. I had some time to spare, so walked around. Then, BANG! Hello Lou Harvey! It was like being trapped in a candy store! Full of colourful candy in all shapes and sizes! YUM! And like candy, I wanted every flavour, every style, every colour, every shape… everything! I think I may have spent at least an hour, just deciding on what I wanted! It was all so predddddy! Now, as tough as the decision I was faced with was, they were having a sale, to make things harder for me. So there was no way I could walk out with just one item! Not that these bags are at all badly priced, but I’ve been trying very hard to save for our overseas trip next…

What to Wear to the 2013 Durban July? Local Designers Help You Decide

What to Wear to the 2013 Durban July? Local Designers Help You Decide

Still not sure what to wear to this year’s Durban July? The theme for the 2013 Durban July is “POSH? Oh My Gosh!“, but what to wear, what to wear? Check out what some of our local designers have to say on this years’ theme. Insider ideas on what to wear for guys and gals, plus tips and tricks to stay fabulous on race day! Craig Jacobs “I love the fact that the theme this year is so tongue in cheek and that’s the way I am going to be playing with it.” At heart he’s rather understated when it comes to his designs and his own dress code. Being posh, he says, is all about how you feel and the luxury of what you are wearing, as opposed to trumpeting head-to-toe logos to announce your arrival. “Comfort uber alles is essential,” says Jacobs. “There’s no point going to town with your outfit and feeling horrible while wearing it. “Clothes are there to celebrate who you are, and that should always be your starting point.” What is really hot this season, he gushes, is attitude – a sort of cool and collected aura you wrap around yourself, one that shows…

What to Wear To the Durban July? “It’s all about elegance”

What to Wear To the Durban July? “It’s all about elegance”

We’re getting super excited for the 2013 Durban July happening at  Greyville Racecourse on Saturday, 6 July! This year’s theme is a time travel back in style to steal the show, with the theme  Posh? Oh my Gosh! But what to wear, what to wear?!… Durban designer Haroun Hansrot says “it’s all about elegance” and taking us back to the roots of the Durban July, when the Horse-racing event was all about elegance! Hansrot’s spin on the theme forecasts gorgeous silhouettes with colours suited to skin tone, beautiful but statement-making headgear and classy accessories, both chunky and subtle – all while maintaining a feminine feel. “My advice? Dress comfortably. You can achieve posh in a variety of ways without being uncomfortable. Put a little thought into it, dress the part and ooze stylish confidence. A tailored suit can easily be accessorized with beautiful silk roses, and I’m talking about the ladies here. You can go simple or over the top, but whatever you wear, make sure you balance your look with the right accompaniments.” When asked what’s hot this season, Hansrot says it’s all about colour! Glorious, beautiful, eye-catching colours. “Don’t be shy to play around with colour. Although the theme is extremely elegant, the idea is not…

Picnic in the Park – Places to go in Durban

Picnic in the Park – Places to go in Durban

Today’s post is a little different to the usual fashion and beauty posts, but at the end of the day, we’re all about sharing tips and inspiring you to live a more fabulous Life in Style. Since getting my new “adventurous” beast, the hubz and I have decided to be a bit more outgoing and have fun! Not really sky diving or bungee jumping (I’m far too scared for that although he’d love it), but “exploring” our beautiful country – and our own back yard, Durban a little more, instead of going to the same old shopping malls – booooring! On Valentines Day, we went with some friends to the Durban Botanical Gardens to watch a live concert by Ard Matthews and the Durban City Orchestra, while having a picnic in the park. It was a beautiful setting, in a beautiful park, listening to beautiful music by the orchestra, and of course Ard’s amazing voice. The DBG hold events all the time, so be sure to check out their website for deets on the next event. Then on Sunday, we took “the beast” out for another picnic/ braai in the park. This time we ventured off to Shongweni Dam. I’ve lived in Durbs for…

Durban’s Finest – The Oysterbox Hotel

Durban’s Finest – The Oysterbox Hotel

If you’re looking for a great place to stay whilst in Durbs, I highly recommend The Oyster Box! The hubs and I recently got to spend a night in this beautiful hotel, where we both enjoyed a night of R&R and a spa treatment thanks to ELLE Magazine! If you grab the latest issue of ELLE (February 2013) which has just hit the shelves, then you can read all about our stay there as well as the must try treatment we both got to experience. While we were staying at the hotel, we decided to enjoy a little din din in the lovely Grill Room. It’s quite pricey, but the food and service were impeccable and totally worth it if you want a little spoil! This is a great place to go for Valentines day – which is less than a month away! Anyway, here are some snaps we took during our stay, just to give you a little taste of  The OysterBox. For more information on the Oysterbox Hotel visit www.oysterboxhotel.com
