Hi There

Pre Summer Skin Prep

Pre Summer Skin Prep

With summer almost here – I say almost, because I’m still freezing my dry skin off – it’s time to start thinking about getting your skin ready for the change of season. And what better way to do that than with a few exfoliating, pore cleansing and purifying facial treats! I’ve rounded up some of my current faves from my “beauty stash” that are perfect for getting rid of that dry winter skin, cleansing the face and ultimately getting our skin ready for summmmmmmer! Payot Doux Gommage Granule-Free Exfoliator (R350.00) has been my holy grail of exfoliators since I first got to try it out four years ago. Since then, I’ve kept it on hand because I love it that much. As the name suggests, it’s completely granule free. You apply a thin layer to your cleansed face, and using gentle circular motions with your fingertips, it transforms from a gel into an ultra soothing oil that “scrubs” away impurities. Nip + Fab Glycolic Scrub (R234.99) is a triple action facial polish with 3% glycolic acid to exfoliate, as well as salicylic acid to gently cleanse out pores. It’s a creamy white mask with micro granules that smells invigorating and leaves your skin feeling fresh and revitalized. Placecol Clearing Scrub Mask (R250.00) is a purifying clay exfoliator that you leave on the skin…

Some New Skin Treats We’ve Tried & Tested

Some New Skin Treats We’ve Tried & Tested

Some exciting new skincare products to keep an eye on as we head into winter… Payot Élixir Douceur Payot recently launched their new serum, Élixir Douceur. The idea behind it is to help soothe, repair and restructure your skin. Working as a “protective shield”, it soothes irritation, repairs the skin and protects it from external aggressions. So, three benefits in one! I like to think of it as addressing past damage, working on present skin conditions and ensuring the future health of your skin by offering a barrier of protection. The texture is light and instantly absorbed by the skin, so there is no feeling of oil buildup on your face. I love the applicator; which has a dropper in the lid, allowing you to “press” out each drop as you need it. I like to use it by applying four drops; one on the forehead, chin and cheeks and then working it all into the skin. It’s great for all skin types and perfect for adding hydration back into the skin as we head into winter. For the ingredients junkies, here’s a list of ingredients and how each one works: Water Lily Extract : Soothes, calms down and restructures. Sesame Oil : Restores the cutaneous barrier. Borage Oil : Protects and regenerates. Sun Floweroil : Nourishes and soothes. Rice Bran Oil :…

Fabulous Face Masks

Fabulous Face Masks

Check out these fab face masks I’m loving right now – tried, tested and loved of course! My skincare routine is pretty simple; I cleanse, moisturise and then load up on sun screen. I tend to avoid toners as my cleanser already does a great job at light exfoliating, so there is no need for me to use a toner as well. Every week, I also like to give my skin a little treat, in the form of an exfolation, cleansing peel or a masque. These are the three masques that are sitting in my bathroom right now… To scroll through my selection, click on the black arrow to the right to navigate through my top three…

Here comes the sun! Get sun smart with these face and body sunscreens

Here comes the sun! Get sun smart with these face and body sunscreens

Summer is here! Well, almost. Soon we’ll be ditching the boots and long sleeves for good, (at least I hope we will) and we’ll need to stock up on some sun smart products, to ensure we stay safe and protected all summer long! Check out our top picks for a sun smart summer for face and body… For the face Remember whether you’re spending time in the sun, catching a tan or plan to spend most of the day mostly under your umbrella, don’t leave the house without protection. Your face is exposed to sun rays pretty much all the time, regardless of whether the sun is shining or it’s overcast. For days on the beach, by the pool or when going for walks, a wide brim hat is a must! We love this floppy hat from Woolworths (R99.99). Your eyes need protection too! Don’t compromise style by investing in a pair of these trendy, blooming beautiful over sized sunnies from Dolce & Gabanna’s ‘Garden Party’ themed collection. Get them at Sunglass Hut (R2290). Protect the skin with an element barrier. Nimue Barrier is a dual skin barrier that helps to protect and strengthen the skin’s natural lipid barrier resistance…

Autumn Skincare 101 – Toners

Autumn Skincare 101 – Toners

Toners are generally used after cleansing to help “seal” the pores and keep them from appearing enlarged. They also help to get rid of any dirt your cleanser may have missed. In Autumn, when your skin may be feeling a little extra dry and sensitive, it’s important to use a toner that is mild and does not irritate the skin. Payot Demaquiliant Express is one of my favourite “toners” as I personally prefer not to use toners on my skin (my cleanser does a good enough job :)). This one however, is a cleansing toner with 3-in-one benefits to cleanse skin, remove make and tone it all in one easy swipe. It removed makeup magnificently and leaves the skin feeling radiant and moisturized. I love using this one at night to take-the-day-away. Phytomer HydraContinue Comforting Toner helps give your skin a refreshing boost of moisture, which is especially great during the colder months. Olay Gentle Cleansers Refreshing Toner also from the Olay Gentle Cleansers range, is  ideal for mild, everyday cleansing. Calming extracts of cucumber and aloe also help to lift off any access dirt that your cleanser (or a heavy day of makeup) might have missed Nivea Visage Daily…

Autumn Skin 101 – Exfoliators & Scrubs

Autumn Skin 101 – Exfoliators & Scrubs

New Kids on the Block It’s amazing how far skincare has come in recent years. Remember those Golden Oldie exfoliators that had all sorts of scrubs, beads and granules  to help with the exfoliating process and to remove dead skin cells? Well there is a whole new breed of exfoliators out there. Some of the new types of exfoliators, or as I like to call them “New kids on the block” are so smooth you wouldn’t even consider them as exfoliators. But they do a great job at getting rid of dead skin cells.     Clarins Gentle Peeling Smooth Away Cream is a granule free exfoliator that works wonders to give your skin a fresh, smooth and “new skin” look. Apply a thin layer, leave on for one minute and remove it with light sweeping movements. I love how this product gives the feeling that you’re “pulling off” your old skin to reveal a fresh, new complexion. There is a technique to removing it, so don’t worry about damaging your skin. Nimue Exfoliating Enzyme. Every time I use Nimue, I can’t believe its a local product! It’s amazing (and looks super chic too). The Exfoliating Enzyme combines Papaya and…
