Autumn Skin 101 – Exfoliators & Scrubs

New Kids on the Block

It’s amazing how far skincare has come in recent years. Remember those Golden Oldie exfoliators that had all sorts of scrubs, beads and granules  to help with the exfoliating process and to remove dead skin cells? Well there is a whole new breed of exfoliators out there. Some of the new types of exfoliators, or as I like to call them “New kids on the block” are so smooth you wouldn’t even consider them as exfoliators. But they do a great job at getting rid of dead skin cells.

  1. Clarins Gentle Peeling Smooth Away Cream is a granule free exfoliator that works wonders to give your skin a fresh, smooth and “new skin” look. Apply a thin layer, leave on for one minute and remove it with light sweeping movements. I love how this product gives the feeling that you’re “pulling off” your old skin to reveal a fresh, new complexion. There is a technique to removing it, so don’t worry about damaging your skin.
  2. Nimue Exfoliating Enzyme. Every time I use Nimue, I can’t believe its a local product! It’s amazing (and looks super chic too). The Exfoliating Enzyme combines Papaya and Pinapple enzymes into a gel based formula that is granule free, but through the combination, it works as a wonderful exfoliator to refine your skin’s texture.
  3. Olay Regenerist Thermal Skin Polisher. Although this product does have micro beads, it offers a great spa-like exfoliating treatment because of how it heats up your skin when applied. It smells good and leaves your skin feeling like new.
  4. Phytomer Vegetal Exfoliant (4) is similar to the Clarins product (1) in terms of texture and application, although you have to leave this one on for five minutes.
  5. Payot Doux Gommage Granule Free Exfoliant is one my absolute faves! The texture of the product is like a non sticky gel formula that is enriched with boswellia extracts. It melts into your skin, toning down redness while it cleans and exfoliates the skin with no granules.
  6. Beaucience Enzyme Exfoliator has a similar texture and concept to the Clarins and Phytomer products but this one requires 15 minutes to work. Although it’s a great product, you have to “find the time” to use it unlike the others which are quicker and offer great results too

Golden Oldies

While the new exfoliators are a must to try, the good ol fashion scrub-a-dub-dub exfolaitors will always have thier place in skin care regimes. And if you’re looking for a great traditional exfoliator to use, then try these out;

  1. Palmers Cocoa Butter Formula Gentle Exfoliating Facial Scrub. Like all Palmers CB products, they’ve used cocoa as the products main ingredient, this time in the micro fine cocoa beans. These help to gently exfoliate the skin and enhance the skins’ texture and ability to absorb moisturizer more effectively.
  2. Almay Gentle Exfoliator is designed for all skin types with a light and effective scrub that has been developed with mild, gentleformulations so you can enjoy a good exfoliating treatment no matter your skin type.
  3. Nivea Visage Natural Beauty Radiance Boosting Daily Scrub is a super gentle daily scrub with mango milk, cashmere proteins and fine scrub particles. It smells ahhh-mazing and leaves your skin feeling soft and smooth without any irritation.
  4. TLC Refreshing Facial Scrub contains vitamin E and cucumber extracts that clean and purify for every day use. The scrubbing formulation is light and non abrasive to your skin.
  5. Nutriwomen Walnut Facial Scrubis an unsual mix of micro beads from walnut husk and apricot extracts that gently work together to remove dead skin cells revealing a bight complextion. This treatment is also designed to reduce the visible appreance of fine lines and wrinkles.
  6. Eucerin Dermo Purifyer Scrub offers an oil free scrub with tiny blue micro particlesthatdissolve as you blend it into your skin. Its ideal for removing blackheads and blemishes on the skin thanks to the Lactic Acid formla.
