Beauty Scoop: Terre & Mer by Thalgo

One of the best things about my job is being able to learn all about the fabulous beauty products out there. Even greater is being able to share them with my fabulous readers on StyleScoop. On Tuesday, I was invited to the launch of a new range of organic skincare – Terre & Mer – the  innovative and organic range of spa skin treatments from Thalgo.

This new range from Thalgo, one of the leading International Spa Therapy brands, embraces organic plant life from the heart of the Mediterranean and combines it with the pure alchemy of the sea. The name Terre & Mer is French and translates to Earth “Terre” & Sea “Mer”. This is the whole concept behind the organic range and is also represented on the logo in the form of leaves at the top and algae (from the sea) at the bottom.

The whole Terre & Mer range is environmentally aware, eco-inspired as well as eco-designed. It comes with a Cosmebio certification, which is the only certification that specifies the exact amount organic components of a product. With Terre & Mer, the formulas are more than 95% natural and comply with the high formulation standards laid down by Ecocert. Further than that, Terre & Mer has not just made their products Eco-friendly, but continue earth friendly awareness through their packaging as well. Their packaging is made of recyclable plastic (PE, PP) and glass, the packs are printed using vegetable inks and are made of FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) labelled cardboard which is sourced from sustainably manged forests. Additionally the packs do not contain wedging.

During the launch, we got to witness the treatment that you would get in a certified spa. This had us all feeling very envious, and you’ll soon see what I mean. The treatment lasts for about 1 hour and 15 minutes. It starts with a welcoming relaxation. By that I mean, you get a full back massage before they even start your facial treatment. Talk about a fabulous way to relax!

Next, cleansing of the skin, followed by the application of specially formulated products, that are customised for your skin type and its unique needs. These tailor made treatments include soothing concentrated oils, gentle sponging, a sculpting facial, infusion of active ingredients and an end of treatment product, which depends on your skin and treatment.

The products were passed around for us to sample while the therapist continued her treatment. The products come in white bottles which protect the essential oils, of which lavender is a prime ingredient, as is algae. Organic herbs are rubbed into the face, and exfoliators consisting of almond shells and lithothamnion (red algae) are used.

A specific style of soothing, relaxing and invigorating music is used during these spa treatments and in a Spa you could expect to pay around R600 – R700 for this Terre & Mer treatment and it is well worth it. The model’s skin looked amazing, refreshed, plumped and all round gorgeous! I was lucky enough to get a voucher to experience the treatment for myself, so I will give you the inside scoop on that as soon as I’ve been – which will be very soon.

In the meantime, you can find out more about Thalgo and the Terre & Mer range on their website. Here you will also find a list of Spa’s that offer this indulgent treatment too

Terre & Mer offers a spa treatment as well as a range you can use at home. The spa or pro range has blue writing, while the retail range has green.
