Totally Note Worthy – Shopping at MrP Online

While I was away I got the cutest package from the stylish peeps over at Mr Price, to launch their new online shopping store. Now you’ve probably already heard about Mr P’s brand new online store and seen all the “Hot Fashion Delivered” packages popping up all over the social networks, so this is probably nothing new to you. While everyone’s already told you how awesome the site is, and it is awesome, I thought I’d shop the store and let you know how the whole experience goes instead! Now, let me start by saying that I have a love-hate relationship with Mr Price. I love them because they have such awesome, trendy, not to mention totally affordable pieces, but I hate that the store is usually over crowded and I can never find anything. I usually head out to Mr P when I see something I like in one of their catalogues, on their FB page or when someone else is wearing something of theirs. So for me, being able to sit on my comfy couch with my iPad and go shopping is absolute bliss! I have shopped online before from ASOS, so I am really glad that the Mr P store…

TREND REPORT: Riding Style

TREND REPORT: Riding Style

Next month, my hometown of Durban plays host to The Vodacom Durban July; one of Durban’s and SA Fashion’s hottest events! With all the hype leading to raceday, combined with a new found love for my riding boots (which I finally found after years of searching), this month’s Trend Report is all about being a stylish Equestrian. Now, as much as I love this style of dressing, I wouldn’t recommend wearing a riding-style outfit to The July – even though it would make more sense to trot around the grass laden race track in comfy flats and a jacket, instead of your sheer, backless couture designer gown and sky high heels – in winter! As for any other day, I definitely think this look rocks, even if you have no actual connection on the Mink and Manure belt. Here’s how to wear the trend… Riding Style Boots A true riding-style outfit requires a pair of fabulous flat riding boots! Riding boots are an investment and will almost always look stylish and on-trend, so it’s worth it to spend a little extra for a great quality pair that will last you a lifetime! Rock Royalty

Rock Royalty

Loving this shade of Shellac I’m currently wearing. It’s from their new winter collection, a gorgeous deep purple shade called Rock Royalty… I’m totally addicted to Shellac! I have been wearing it on my nails almost non-stop since I had my first Shellac application in January.

Totally Fab Finds @MrPriceFashion

Totally Fab Finds @MrPriceFashion

On a recent trip to Mr Price, on the hunt for a gorgeous skirt I saw at Glam Camp, I was impressed not only at how much cool stuff they had, but how much cool stuff I bought! I’ve been looking for a leopard print scarf for the longest time! All the ones I’ve seen haven’t had an “authentic” print, so when I came across this baby, I snapped it up straight away! It’s a long scarf in a soft, sheer fabric, that you can fold double to create a snood. Perfect for the transition into Autumn! I also found this pack of tassel bangles! Most of you know my obsession with Arm candy and while I love stacking bangles, these elastic ones are much easier to wear. They have the cutest little beads and tassels and I love the mix of autumny colours. It was an absolute bargain buy at R39.99. I bought this skirt without a second thought. I love the print, love that it’s high waisted and love that it’s super cute! It was an added bonus when I saw it was marked down! Where in this world would you find such a cutie for under R50…

Front Row with Amber Jones

Front Row with Amber Jones

Living in Durban and married to the love of her life, with a bulldog named Dennis and a Boston Terrier named Frank, Amber Jones is a fashion icon, designer and the quirky, retro-cool chick behind the blog, Thunder in Our Hearts. Amber lives and breathes fashion with an insanely obsessive addiction to magazines. If she was’nt in fashion, Amber reckons she’d probably have been a florist in another life. In this week’s Front Row With series we chat with Amber on her second line (launched recently in Mr Price), find out what defines style and what you need if you want to break into fashion… Your blog, thunderinourhearts.com is filled with cool content that inspires and excites you, tell us a bit about how you came up with the name Thunder In Our Hearts? I heard the lyrics of a Kate Bush song and then found an insane tote bag on Fieldguided with the words printed onto it. Most often for me seeing something my eye finds really pleasing has a physical feeling attached to it – think it feels a bit like Thunder… How did you get started in fashion? I studied a BA Hons in fashion at Linea Academy…

Big City Brights

Big City Brights

I’m so excited for summer and all the gorgeous brights! I shopped a little at Gateway this weekend, actually a lot, but picked up some really nice bright sparks… Cute tee’s, bangles, flats and belts without breaking the bank! Take a look… First up, this gorgeous brightly coloured striped tee from Mr Price! Believe it! I am very impressed with the selection Mr Price has these days, and this gorgeous tee is just one of my many purchases from Mr Price. I love it because it’s over-sized so looks casual cool paired with skinny jeans and some cute flats. I also like how it can be pulled to one side, revealing a tanned shoulder. These flats, also from Mr P grabbed my eye. I love the mix of colours and the cute rope detail. My fave is the zip-up back which has a striking metallic gold finish. I’ve had my eye on these pink and orange skinny belts from Woolworths for a while now. I was so glad to see that they were’nt sold out, so I snapped them up straight away! Aren’t they funky? These stacking bangles are my fave purchase of the day! As you know, I’m obsessed…

TREND REPORT: Stacking Bangles, Creating an Arm Party

TREND REPORT: Stacking Bangles, Creating an Arm Party

I love accessories and my fave ones are bangles and bracelets. They are so much fun and a trend I’ve really started embracing this season is stacking up bangles, creating delightful displays of arm candy. To show you guys how to “stack ’em up”, I hauled my own collection of bangles and created some stacking effects. You can do this with just about any type of bangles, and although I’ve used a lot of gold tones (as it looks better on my olive skin), you can use the same stacking technique with silver, black, coloured or even natural/ wooden bangles. Go wild, get creative and stack ’em up! The trick to bangle stacking success is to mix up different textures and patterns and try to work with bangles that are in the same colour family. It’s super simple to do, just play around with different sizes, textures and positioning and you too can create a party on your arm. STACK ‘EM UP Here, I’ve stacked up five bangles. The first one I bought in Greece, the snake cuff came from Sass Diva and the three bangles on the end were part of an Aldo collection of bangles that I bought…

The 031Collection – Putting Durban Back on The Fashion Map

The 031Collection – Putting Durban Back on The Fashion Map

So last night I headed out to watch the 031Collection, a fantastical fashion event right here in my hometown, Durban. What an amazing event, so well organised, totally styled and very inspiring. As an ex Jo’burger, I’m proud to say I’m a Durbanite these days! I remember when Durban used to be T-H-E fashion mecca in South Africa, at least, when I lived in Gauteng, I thought so. Anyway, big up to Mr Price for putting Durban back on the fashion map. If this event is anything to go by, Cape Town and Joburg darlings, you’ve got some serious competition. 8 Local Legends, including; Ruff Tung, Nugini Shades, Leigh Schubert, Sibu Msimang, Amanda Laird Cherry, Terrence Bray, The Holmes Brothers and Francois Vedemme showcased their collections with Mr Price New Designer Finalists; Belinda Morgan, Hanrie Lues, Kaila Goss, Claire MacKenzie, Cindy Armstrong, Jacqui Munsumi, Gregory Dladla and Ludwig Bezuidenhout. The final is going down tonight in Durbs, and we’ll know pretty soon which new designer gets a fashion head start by designing a collection for Mr Price. All the designs were beautiful, my personal favourites among the legends included, of course, my favourite, Leigh Schubert who always has such amazing…
