Mauritius SO Sofitel

Mauritius SO Sofitel

At the end of January, I hopped on a plane and headed off to one of my favourite destinations… Mauritius! If you’re a regular here on StyleScoop, you probably already know my love affair with this Island. It’s so close to home (literally a four and a half hour flight away) and I would go back every year if I could. More than once too – haha It was my third visit to the island, and this time, I was very fortunate to have been invited by Accor to experience their magnificent SO Sofitel Mauritius on the South Coast of the island. Having been to Mauritius twice before, I thought I knew the island pretty well. Turns out, I got to experience a whole new kind of Mauritius in the South. On previous trips with my hubby, we stayed on the North Coast – and I pretty much know Grand Baie like the back of my hand. But this time the Mauritius I experienced was wilder, more idyllic, peaceful, serene and very different from the “buzzing touristy” island I’ve always know. The South Coast of Mauritius is wild. It’s even referred to as the “Wild South” and you can tell.…

Blyde River Canyon

Blyde River Canyon

The Blyde River Canyon has been on my bucket list for ages. Funny thing is, every year (for the past five) we head out on an amazing African Bush Getaway to the Timbevati. And every time, we drive straight past the town of Graskop, home to the magnificent Blyde River Canyon. This year, I decided to surprise the hubby with a stay-over on our way back and if you haven’t experienced the sheer magnificence of the Blyde River Canyon, you are missing out on one of God’s most magnificent creations! I kid you not! I thought hiking in the Drakensberg was amazing! Not that it wasn’t, but hiking at Blyde River Canyon blew our Drakensberg hike out of the park! We went on the Guinea Fowl Trail, and it was one of the most amazing eye-candy, soul inspiring activities I’ve ever done. We started close to the Lower Viewpoint at Blyde Canyon and hiked all the way down to the bottom of the valley. Then hiked back up again to the other side of the canyon. So basically, when we completed our 5,1km distance (in 3 hours and 17 minutes in case you’re wondering) we had gone around and seen the…

Mauritius Wild South

Mauritius Wild South

One of my favourite experiences on our Mauritius trip, and one that felt – truly Mauritian – was our little rum tasting tour and touring the Mauritius Wild South. Since we did the Catamaran excursion ten years ago when we visited, we opted for an inland tour of Mauritius instead. Mauritius is known for its beautiful beaches and amazing waters, but inland Mauritius is also something to be admired. A Tour of the Wild South is a great day trip that will let you explore Mauritius’ majestic scenery. It includes a visit to the Black River National Park, the sacred lake at Grand Bassin as well as some fantastic stops at Chamarel, including; the Rum Distillery, Chamarel Waterfall and a chance to view the Seven Coloured Earths. We went with a tour group, and the big benefit there was having a tour guide – Steeve (yes with two ee’s) who made it more interesting. The only downside, was that the tour felt a bit rushed and I would have loved to spend more time at Rhumeire De Chamarel and at Grand Bassin. You can also hire a private guide, which I think would have been fantastic. The Wild South Stop at Grand Bassin Grand Bassin, also called Ganga Taloa is Mauritius’…

Ultimate Road Trip to Limpopo

Ultimate Road Trip to Limpopo

The other day I was going through my phone and came across some photos from my Road Trip to Limpopo. Hands down, one of the best road trips I’ve ever been on. Which makes me wonder why I never sat down to write a post about it, but ya know what they say – better late than never hey! You guys know how much I love a good road trip and I’ve always said that road tripping is part of the holiday fun. Being in South Africa, we are really spoilt with an amazing road tripping landscape, where (most of the time), we have access to pretty decent roads to travel long and far! Limpopo being one of my favourite road trip destinations! Just shy of 320km driving distance from Johannesburg, Limpopo is the perfect long-ish haul road trip that isn’t too far and promises beautiful landscapes along the way. There’s a lot to see and do in Limpopo. Being en route to the Kruger National Park and having their own game reserves, going on Safari is a huge drawcard. And the region is also well known for their incredible Baobab trees, some of which are over 1 700 years old!…

Drakensberg Mountain Getaway

Drakensberg Mountain Getaway

If you’re a regular Joburg-to-Durban (or Durbs to Jozi) road tripper and you haven’t added the majestic Drakensberg area to your stop along the way, then you’re really missing out on one of the most beautiful landscapes South Africa has to offer. A dramatic escarpment of glorious basalt peaks will take your breath away. Sweeping vistas, flawless panoramas and stunning mountains, the Drakensberg is also home to the highest peak in South Africa. Towering at 3 482 meters, the Thabana Ntlenyana mountain, which forms part the Maluti Mountain range links South Africa with the Kingdom of Lesotho. It’s name literally translates to “beautiful little mountain” which is ironic considering its spectacular height. From Durban, the Drakensberg is a short 2-2.5 hour drive, and from Jozi it’s about 4 or 5 hours, making it the ideal mid-stop for your next road trip! Since I lived in Durban, we used to travel the route passing the Berg so many times, and can’t believe it’s taken this long to actually make the stop along the way for once! Well, it’s always been at the back of my mind – but then we plan our road trip and somehow the thought of adding a Berg stop gets missed. Luckily…

Experience Mauritius: A Visual Story

Experience Mauritius: A Visual Story

It’s been over a month since our magical holiday to the island of Mauritius, and judging by my Instagram feed, you can tell I’m still not over this paradise island. We had such an incredible stay and today, I wanted to share some of my Mauritius Travel tips and a visual story that may help you if you’re planning a visit to this East African gem. Mauritius truly is a slice of paradise! From the beautiful beaches to the crystal clear waters with incredible sea life. Then there’s the five-star service (throughout the island), the flowing cocktails and of course, the fantastic weather. But the one true thing that makes Mauritius so incredibly special, is it’s warm and friendly people who welcome you into their little corner of paradise – if only for a few days! In March this year, for our 10 year wedding anniversary the hubby spoilt me rotten! Firstly with an incredible designer piece that I’ve lusted after for ages, but if that wasn’t enough, he also spoilt me with an 8-day surprise trip to Mauritius. He actually sneaked our flights and accommodation booking for Mauritius inside the handbag he gave me on my birthday (BTW, my birthday…

24 Hours in Prague; What To Do, See, Eat and My Travel Tips

24 Hours in Prague; What To Do, See, Eat and My Travel Tips

I love reading 24 hour city guides. I like to see what others would get up to if they had only 24 hours, because I think it highlights their best parts of a city. Although my recent visit to Prague was for 3 days, bear in mind that this was a business trip, so a lot of the time our schedule was packed with interviews, launches and store visits. But, I did manage to experience a full day of exploring before jetting back to SA – as well a few sights sneaked in between the agenda. If you’re planning a trip to the kingdom of Bohemia, then here’s a few of my travel tips…

Come Walk With Me Through Old Town Prague

Come Walk With Me Through Old Town Prague

I’ve just returned from T-H-E most amazing, 3 day trip in beautiful Prague and can’t get over the beauty and charm of this magical, fairy tale like city of contrasts. I was there attending #BataFashionWeekend, as Prague is the home town of the 123 year old Bata shoe brand. In the coming weeks, I’ll have more content on the fashion show; with an insight into what you can expect to see from Bata (exciting things to come), as well more travel content,  but for today, I wanted to take you along, on a walk through Old Town Prague with me…

Madinat Jumeirah Al Qasr Dubai

Madinat Jumeirah Al Qasr Dubai

I can’t believe that it has been over a month since my amazing Dubai adventure. Right now, I’m having serious Dubai withdrawals! So today, I’m taking you back to show you one of the magical places that I stayed in – the beautiful Madinat Jumeirah Al Qasr – a hotel that will truly take your breath away! Madinat Jumeirah Al Qasr is a luxurious, 5 star Arabian resort, that is so beautiful, you almost don’t want to leave the premises. And why would you? This Palace (Al Qasr translates to Palace in english) is so beautiful and has amazing facilities all around it. If it wasn’t for a tightly packed schedule, I could have easily just stayed right here 🙂 So much to do, so much to see and beauty all round. The Al Qasr hotel forms part of theMadinat Jumeirah, or “City” of Jumeirah, which is a cluster of resorts, world-class restaurants, bars and cafes, the Talise Spa and a traditional souk, filled with Arabian gems, all interlinked via meandering waterways. You explore the complex by jumping on an Abra, which is a traditional Arabic boat made of wood! It’s such a fun experience, and a fun, authentic way to take in the beauty of the Madinat Jumeirah. Inside the hotel you instantly feel the majestic elegance. From the Royal architecture that showcases Al Qasr Madinat Jumeirah like…

View From The Top! Burj Khalifa & Armani Hotel Dubai

View From The Top! Burj Khalifa & Armani Hotel Dubai

Not too long ago, I was (literally) on top of the world! One of the highlights of my Dubai trip was a visit to the Burj Khalifa! At 829.8 metres, the Burj Khalifa is the tallest building in the world! Myself, Tyashnee from DTMC SA, Kelly from Marie Claire and my ninja partner in crime – Irina (you’ll see what I mean by ninja soon –  just keep reading…) At 124 floors, the Burj Khalifa is so tall that you can watch the sunset from the base of the building, get into the elevator right to the top, and watch the sunset all over again! How insane is that!? It’s a view that cannot be understood until you experience it, and if you are ever in Dubai, I highly recommend checking it out! Everything looks so extremely small, that your mind will have a hard time trying to put things into perspective! Cars look like matchboxes, people are not noticeable at all, and roads look like strings of spaghetti! Within the Burj Khalifa is the exquisite, chic and elegantly minimalistic ARMANI Dubai Hotel, which occupies the concourse level through to level 8, as well as levels 38 and 39. This hotel is pure elegance, and every design detail was overseen…

Cruising Around the Dubai Marina

Cruising Around the Dubai Marina

Take me back to Friday the 10th! It was a perfect day to spend a blissful afternoon, cruising around on a private Yacht, taking in the breathtakingly beautiful Dubai Marina! The Dubai Marina is an artificial canal city that has been built along a 3 km stretch of shoreline. Picture deep blue Persian waters, surrounded by residential sky scrapers all round. Good company and good food is all you need… Irina, Me, Kelly from Marie Claire. Mpumi from Destiny and Mbali from True Love The Crew: From top left: Mpumi Sinxoto from Destiny Magazine, Kelly Fung from Marie Claire, Mbali Soga from True Love Magazine, Irina Doman from I’ll Take It All , Tumi Voster from 5fm, Shashi Naidoo, Lorinda Voges with singing sensation LeAnne Dlamini and the two girls that made it all possible; Lucy Mussett and Tyashnee Gounden from DTCM SA. It’s the perfect way to view a definitive Dubai landmark, The Burj Al Arab setting sail “out at sea”. Or brave jet skiers that put on a little show… Or, the ideal place to take a mandatory Yacht photo… having your  “titanic” moment! All round, a fabulous day! If only I had worn my swimsuit, as the water looked amazing to take a dip!

The Fairmont Dubai

The Fairmont Dubai

During my incredible Dubai visit last week, one of the hotels we stayed at was the five star Fairmont Dubai! Owned by Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the Fairmont is classy, chic and very close to everything you need. The decor is very glam and elegant, with just touch of Moroccan inspiration. Around the corner of the building is the stylish Cavalli Club, and on the road outside, a strip lined with coffee shops and food places. Not forgetting that the hotel is within walking distance to the Dubai Metro. Irina and I buzzed with excitement (and fuelled with Costa Coffee). We couldn’t resist exploring the streets of Dubai at 11pm at night after we checked in. The Fairmont Dubai is the first property for the Fairmont brand in the Middle East. It has 394 rooms, 200 of which are standard rooms. On the 34th floor there are six penthouses and a 500 sqm suite – that’s bigger than my first house – including the garden! The hotel itself houses the new Catch Dubai Restaurant (which I’ll tell you guys more about in my Places to eat in Dubai Post coming up next week), the Noire Restaurant, which is the one and only dining in the dark concept in the Middle East, as well as a number…

Dubai Bound

Dubai Bound

Good morning fabulous people! I hope you all had a lovely Easter break! I’ve been up since of the crack of dawn, giddy with excitement…. can you guess why? I’m on my way to an epic Dubai adventure with the fab folk at Dubai Tourism and Commerce Marketing South Africa (DTCM SA). Our itinerary is jam packed with seven days exploring and experiencing the very best of what this magical land has to offer. Amongst high tea at the Burj Al Arab, a dessert safari, private yacht charter, skiing, shopping at the gold, textile and spice souks, we’ll be attending Season 5 of Fashion Forward – one of Dubai’s hottest fashion showcases. Enjoy a sneak peek from my Dubai adventure by following me on Instagram (@stylescoop) where I will be sharing this amazing adventure through my iPhone lens. #stylescoopgoestodubai #stylescooptravles I’m all packed up with a ton of clothing options. Normally, I like to travel as light as possible (so that I can shop up a storm ya know), but since this is a media trip, every single outfit has to be planned – which means a hell of a lot of clothes, shoes, accessories, curling irons, straightener’s – the…

London Photo Diary

London Photo Diary

I always wanted to go to London. So when I found out I’d be traveling to London with River Island, a hot British fashion brand new to SA, I was over the moon! There was a lot I wanted to see, but there just wasn’t enough time to see it all. However, I did manage to squeeze in a few sights, a traditionally Brit Fish & Chips din-din and some shopping! The highlight of my trip no doubt, was visiting the River Island headquarters (check out my post and video here) and also attending their “RIxmas14” – Christmas in July press preview – which I’ll show you guys more of next week. For today’s post, I wanted to share a small photo diary of my trip. Going through these pics makes me want to go back all over again! London is such a buzzing, beautiful place. Even walking the streets is an amazing sight seeing experience! I love the old buildings, the fact that people walk – I’ve never walked so much in my life! And just the atmosphere in general. One of the things I really wanted to see was the “Coco Chanel Lampposts”. I read about the legend of these, I think in Camilla Morton’s, “How to Walk…

My Snapshots from Crete – Greece’s Island Paradise

It’s been two weeks since the hubs and I have been back from holiday. Things things have been so manic trying to catch-up, I’ve only now had a chance to even look through my holiday pics. Since I was organizing my snapped memories, I thought I’d share some of my fave pics with you guys. There are a lot, so I’ve split them into two posts, the second one I’ll post on Friday. I didn’t take my “big boy” camera along with all the time, which I regret now – but thankfully we both had our phones with us, so we could at least snap some memories. Today I’ll share some pics from our island holiday in Crete,
