Butter Up – Lip Butters You Will Love

Lip butters are the latest makeup goodies on everyone’s lips. Our UK columnist, Bronwyn mentioned the arrival of these lip butters in her blog post back in May, and now I’ve had the chance to try them out for myself. I can definitely see what all the fuss it about! They are awesome!

Perfect for summer, these lip butters moisturize your lips and give you a nice sheen of fabulous colour. They are not quite like lip gloss, in that they don’t make your lips shine and aren’t as “heavy” as lipsticks either. Lip Butters are the perfect in betweners and make your lips feel butter soft!

The two ranges I got to play with came from Revlon and L’Oreal. Take a look…

Revlon Lip Butters

Revlon calls their lip butters Revlon Colorburst Lip Butter and I got to try out three of the shades; Berry Smoothie, Creamsicle and Tutti Frutti.

Of the three, I absolutely love Berry Smoothie. It’s about the same shade as my own lips, so really gives them a nice punch! I do love Cremsicle which is a more nude colour, but sadly it doesn’t go to well with my skin tone. If you love nude, creamy shades, then definitely try this one. Tutti Frutti is also an awesome fruity colour for summer! I’ll be packing this one for my Euro trip this month!

The colours look super bright in the packaging, but once applied the colour is a lot less intense but equally gorgeous! They have a balmy, buttery feel and make my lips feel soft and smooth. Each one comes in a different coloured container to match the shade of lipstick, so you can find it quickly and easily. Nice if you have an obsession with lipstick!

L’Oreal Lip Butters

L’Oreal also have a gorgeous collection of Lip butters called Caresse. In this range, I got to try out two of the shades, Lovely Rose and Rebel Red.

As you can see, I’ve used a lot of Lovely Rose already. I’m sorry, I just couldn’t wait until after shooting it to try it out :). It’s a pretty pink that fills lips with a gorgeous tinge of pink.

As for the red, I’m not a huge fan of red lipstick as it is. Don’t get me wrong, I love it on others, I just can’t get used to it on myself. Rebel Red is a nice red, because it’s got that red punch but it’s not too hectic. So if you’re not the red lipstick wearing type because you feel like it’s too noticeable, try this one, it might help you boost your red lip confidence.

The other great thing about this red, is that it doesn’t fade the same way red lipstick does. So you don’t have to worry about your lips looking too clowny when the colour starts to wear.

Once again, the Caresse lippies feel like soft smooth butter and give lips loads of hydration.

The Revlon lip butters are available at DisChem for R99 each. It makes it a little easier to splurge. Peach Parfait is my favourite.

I love the Revlon Lip Butters! BUT I find that it doesn’t have any staying power. When I put it on in the morning, I find I have to reapply when I get in the car, and that’s without eating or drinking anything. But I’m still addicted to them though! How did you find the staying power? Did you do anything special to make them last longer?
