Skincare Faves

It’s been a while since I’ve updated you ladies on some skincare products that have really made a difference in my life. So, I thought I’d come at you today with some of my favourite skincare goodies that are worth checking out.

The Body Shop Tea Tree Range

I got to try out the Body Shop Tea Tree Skincare Range last year when I collaborated with The Body Shop and I think this may just have been my first touch of The Body Shop skincare. I mean, I love their body products but I was excited to try out some skincare goodies – especially the Tea Tree range, since I already loved their Tea Tree Hair Scrub so much.

The Body Shop Tea Tree range is targeted for blemished skin, and while I knew it wouldn’t help reduce my Melasma, I was keen to see the results of how it would tone down my inflammation. After all, that has been one of the culprits of my pigmentation.

When I used the range, I immediately noticed that my skin was less red which is great!

The Skin Clearing Facial Wash is such an amazing cleanser because it removes all dirt and doesn’t leave my skin inflamed afterwards. I don’t have to irritate my skin with getting it on, because the gel formula works into a wonderful lather that does all the “dirty work” for you.

Then there’s the Body Shop Tea Tree Mattifying Lotion which is also fan-tabulous! If you have oily skin (mine is combo), then this will be your new best friend. It takes down the oiliness but doesn’t erase the healthy and natural skin shine. So you know, your glow is from healthy skin rather than from oily residue.

It’s also super light weight so great when thinking about using it daily and doing your makeup after.

I also liked the Anti-Imperfection Daily Solution as it absorbs super quick, and again if you have oily skin you’ll love it to bits. For me, I used this when I noticed breakouts and it stopped them in their tracks.

Overall, I loved this skin care range because it works, it smells really good and best of all, it’s so affordable.

Tea Tree Skin Clearing Facial Wash (R115 for 25oml), Tea Tree Mattifying Lotion (R150 for 50ml) and Tea Tree Anti-Imperfection Daily Solution (R210 for 50ml)

Filorga-Time Filler Night & NCEF-Night Mask

I don’t think I need to tell you (again) how much I adore this brand! But seriously, I adore Filorga.

Their products are like little jars of liquid magic. I don’t think I’ve ever been disappointed with any of their products. In fact, Time-Filler is one of my number one skin care products that’s totally worth the splurge from Filorga.

Their products are pretty pricey, but I’ve always said if you can’t afford the whole range, then Time-Filler is the product that will rock your world and definitely worth the investment.

Now they’ve launched Filorga Time-Filler Night and I’m even more excited to see one of my favourite products get a little more Vooma as a night time skincare superhero product.

A multi-correction wrinkle night cream. Think of it as botox in a jar – and yes, it is that good!

As with the original Time-Filler, the Time-Filler Night version continues to target the four main types of wrinkles, and also includes powerful active ingredients, formulated specifically to act on sleep wrinkles/pillow lines and night-time puffiness.

So you can wake up with great skin! Basically you would use Time-Filler Night in leu of your night cream/ moisturizer. So cleanse the skin, apply your Time-Filler Night and follow with a serum.

In the morning you’ll wake up with instantly more beautiful skin and over time, with continued use you’ll see a wonderfully satisfying reduction in the depth of fine lines and wrinkles.

Price: R1105 for 50ml available at Selected Red Square and Edgars Stores.

Filorga NCEF-NIGHT MASK

Another newish launch from the brand is their NCEF-NIGHT MASK. It contains active ingredients that have been directly inspired by aesthetic medicine – to help you wake up with younger looking skin.

The glow you get from this stuff the next morning is amazing!

I’m sure we can agree on the fact that we don’t get our beauty sleep – despite knowing how important sleep is for the wellbeing of our overall health and performance, but also the story it tells on our skin.

So, with this in mind and knowing that insufficient sleep results in the reduction of melanin production (which by the way, also decreases as we age), Filorga’s new NCEF-NIGHT MASK is like your personal skin pick-me-up!

With 50 skin regenerating ingredients (including vitamins, minerals, amino acids, coenzymes and antioxidants) coupled with a wonder trio of Melatonin’CX®, Hyaluronic Acid + Collagen and Red Indigo Extract your skin gets a chance to “recover” at night, correcting the signs of skin ageing.

I like to use it every other night on my skin.

Price: R899 for 50ml available from Selected Red Square and Edgars Stores.

Elizabeth Arden Retinol Ceramide Capsules

I got to sample these a little while ago, and now that I’m halfway through my bottle, I can tell you gals for certain that this is the bees-knees of Retinol products!

One of the most difficult things with Retinol is being able to keep it stable. Once the bottle is opened, exposure to light, air and temperature quickly loses its potency.

Now that Elizabeth Arden have launched Retinol in their super clever little capsules, they say you can get 75% more potent retinol compared to its non-encapsulated equivalent. And it makes sense, since once you “pop your capsule” your product is only exposed then and there – and it goes directly on your skin.

With Retinol too much can be counterproductive and too little won’t get the job done, so with Elizabeth Arden Retinol Cermide Capsules they’ve taken the guess work (and hassle of trying to keep your product stable) out of using retinol.

It’s pretty genius if you ask me! Despite being 75% more potent than it’s non-encapsulated equivalent, I didn’t feel that I got any irritation from it at all. Sometimes retinol products can leave a bit of “sting” but these left my skin feeling great!

The other great benefit of these, is that you can use them as a line erasing night serum. So you don’t need retinol and a serum as this is basically that, in one. They are packed with

  • Ceramides 2 & 3 to replenish skin’s natural ceramides,
  • Retinol to enhance natural collagen and reduce lines,
  • Youth Restoring Peptides to promote smoothing and elasticity as well as
  • Avocado, Sunflower Seed and Olive Oils to moisturise and condition the skin.

Available at selected Department Stores: R959 for 60 Capsules or R565 for 30 Capsules.

Nimue Sun-C Environmental Sheild

Summer is definitely on the way out, but it’s not over yet and one of the most important things to consider in our Country is using smart sun protection – all year round! We aren’t called “Sunny South Africa” for nothing you know!

One of the latest products from Nimue is their Sun-C Environmental Shield SPF 50 – a SPF product that protects your skin from damage caused by sunlight as well as Blue Light.

If you’re reading this on your computer or mobile (which you obviously are – duh) that lovely blue light has been shown to be just as damaging on our skin as the sun.

This is a lightweight, non-greasy “environmental shield” which protects agains UVA, UVB, Infrared, Blue Light and Pollution. It absorbs quickly without the greasy residue of many sun screens and it has no scent, which I love.

But, what I really love is that it doesn’t have any of the known nasty sun-protecting ingredients in it (READ MY POST: How Smart are You about Sunscreen). It’s also got zinc-oxide, which I much prefer to use on my skin for sun protection but another bonus of this product is that the zinc oxide doesn’t leave me with that “white face” effect after application.

Price: R550 for 50ml
