My O Magazine Shoot – Behind the Scenes

My O Magazine Shoot – Behind the Scenes

Some of you may remember (from my obsessive tweeting) that in December last year, I was lucky enough to get flown to Cape Town to feature in a real people fashion shoot for O Magazine. I’m no shmodel, but it was great fun to experience life as a model – even if it was just for a day. The O Magazine fashion gals, Fashion Ed Robyn Cooke (styleguidecapetown.blogspot.com) and her assistant Luisa are such experts!  I mean, look at the outfits on this rack, without even meeting me, they found my style and knew what would look good on me. I was in love with the Hip Hop jacket and cargo pants, I wanted to take them home. Even the shoes, gimmie! I also got to finally meet fellow blog stars and fashionistas Allison Scotsman (AKA Lady Luxe, aka @TweetsinHeels from skinnybitchesinthemaking.blogspot.com) and Milisuthando Bongela (AKA @missmillib from missmillib.blogspot.com) who are both such amazing girls with awesome blogs. Our feature, Blog Stars is in the current issue of O Magazine (March 2011) which should be out on shelf right now. I can’t wait to see it for myself (yay me), but thought you might enjoy a little behind the scenes…

Summer Lust Lists – Samantha Laura Kaye

Summer Lust Lists – Samantha Laura Kaye

We asked the gorgeous Cape Town based professional makeup artist, slash model, slash stylist and of course beauty blogger, Samantha Laura Kaye to tell us what’s on her Summer Lust List this year. Check it out… 1) Chanel Mat Lumiere Powder Compact My favourite find of 2010 this feather-light and oil free foundation which is powder based and delivers a flawless radiant finish. It absorbs oil and sweat on the hottest of summer days and contains light reflecting pigments which minimize flaws and fine lines, making skin appear healthy and flawless without being overly powdery. The compact makes for extremely convenient and stylish touch-ups and the coverage is build-able allowing for extra cover in the areas you need it most. It contains an SPF 10 (not enough, but any SPF is rare for a powder compact) and feels luxurious and velvety on the skin unlike other powder compacts which can leave the skin feeling dry and chalky. 2) An Aubade Bikini I fell in love with Aubade lingerie earlier this year and discovered their bikinis shortly afterwards. Whilst nothing beats nude tanning (nobody likes tan lines) every lady needs a bikini that looks amazing on her. Aubade is a french…

Summer Lust Lists – Eloise Dreyer

Cape Town celebrity makeup artist Eloise Dreyer shares the three things at the top of her Summer Lust List… 1. My new iPod Touch With it’s amazing big touch screen I can check the weather, email, listen to my favourite summer tunes and even watch videos! It does everything the iPhone does, except for making calls! 2. Van Cleef & Arpels Feerie My favourite fragrance of the moment Van Cleef & Arpels Feerie. Apart for the stunning packaging, the fragrance is fresh, sophisticated and very feminine. I love this one at the moment. 3. The new Dior summer sunnies collection Summer reminds me of cool blue waters, sandy shores and long girly cocktails. This summer I definitely plan on getting these Dior sunglasses to reflect my summer mood. The colour is to stunning! Summer Lust Lists – Robyn Cooke

Summer Lust Lists – Robyn Cooke

Today we take a look at Robyn Cooke, Madame Style Guide CT’s Summer Lust list. If you haven’t heard of Robyn Cooke, you haven’t heard of blogging – she’s one of SA’s best known fashion bloggers, with an eye for detail, an incredible sense of style, and oh, she’s also the Fashion Editor at O Magazine South Africa. 1. Lalesso Dress Top of my list for summer is a Lalesso dress from South African Designers at Woolworths. I love to support local fashion. I adore Alice from Lalesso. The Woolies prices are affordable. And the dresses are super-cute and perfect for a hot summer in Africa. Sold! 2. Cute Kitten Heels Also on my list for this season is (yet another) pair of cute, pointy kitten heels from Jimmy Choo. I try only to buy Jimmy Choo shoes by saving up for the best I can afford. It feels like luxury, lasts like luxury and makes my feet very, very happy. 3. 50’s Inspired Swimsuit The other thing that I lust after for the season is 50s style one-piece bathing costume – in modern lycra. This is an almost impossible task, one that I have set myself every year for…

Out with the old, in with the (almost) new

Out with the old, in with the (almost) new

You know what they say, one man’s trash is another man’s treasure, right?  How about clothes?  Vintage is a fairly new fashion buzzword and in my opinion, a great way to make old, used clothes more fashion-fab rather than trailer-park-drab. What would you rather say; “I love mixing vintage pieces with jeans” or “I love wearing these old jeans that I bought from a jumble sale (remember those) at my neighbours trailer”? Yeah exactly! When you think of used clothes, old comes to mind.  However used clothes do not have to look ratty and drab, in fact they don’t have to be that old at all.  Think about how many things you’ve bought an item, worn it once and shoved into the back of your closet?  Oftentimes the only reason people get rid of clothes, besides wanting to make space for new items, is because they have either worn the piece to death, outgrown it or the item has lost it’s appeal.  That doesn’t mean that the appeal is lost to everyone though. The other day I got an email from Tonia Zorbas, who is part of a great South African project called Fashion Exchange.  It’s a local company that…

Glammed and Fabbed at the GHD StyleLounge – Durban

Glammed and Fabbed at the GHD StyleLounge – Durban

On Friday last week, I was invited to attend the Durban event of the GHD Style Lounge with my friend Rhona. The event was held at *Max* Institute of Fashion Art at Gateway.  The venue had been transformed into a GHD pop up salon, and with its full-on fashion ramp, could not have been more fitting. Our “pamper session” started the minute we walked in. We were greeted with a glass of bubbly and let loose among the fabulous spread of mouth watering treats – my favourite was the chocolate fountain with strawberries and marshmallows, which I had to resist with force. The venue buzzed with stylists and fashionista’s alike and former Miss South Africa, Megan Coleman was there too.  All the girls looked fabulous with their hair and makeup, trotting around with glasses of champagne, chatting at the bar or enjoying the treats.  We started with “Mane’s” – Our hair was fabbed and styled with GHD hot irons and GHD products, specific to our hair’s individual needs.  Tracy did a great job of giving me loose, sexy curls – In addition we were also treated to a goodie bag filled with GHD hair products, to keep up the styling…
