There’s something to be said about winter and good food! The two just go hand in hand, which is why I love a little chilly season indulgence (we can work it off in summer okay). I got to sample some of the new season treats from Woolies (always a fave place to shop for the yummiest treats) and wanted to give you gals the inside scoop on what you should be adding to your trolley this season. Rusks Rusks are always a winter winner! Who doesn’t love dunking a yummy rusk into coffee or tea first thing in the morning? I sure do! Be sure to lookout for two new Rusk variants at Woolworths; My favourite, The Waffle Rusk – baked in waffle pans, dipped in syrup and dried to make the perfect dunk worthy rusk and The No Added Sugar Ayrshire Buttermilk Rusk which is made using sucralose and the sweetness of Ayrshire Buttermilk. People often complain that Jozi is the concrete jungle and besides going out to dinner, there isn’t much to do in Gauteng. Sure we’re not blessed with sandy beaches, but blue skies, wonderful waters and outdoor adventures are all around us! You just have to step out of your suit and tie every once in a while to experience all the glory that Gauteng has to offer! Nobody wants to spend their year end leave trawling around shopping centres hunting down their holiday find. I know that’s the last place I want to be! Romantic Weekend Getaway

Last weekend was one of the best we’ve had in ages. In March, we celebrated our 8-year wedding anniversary and I really wanted to do something special, so we headed out to “the country” for a romantic weekend getaway at the beautiful Kievits Kroon Country Estate in Pretoria. This 16-hectare estate is a true gem! It’s like being in the beautiful Cape Winelands, without venturing too far from home. Well, if your home is in jozi that is! Lush and tranquil, Kievits Kroon is a country escape that has everything you need to relax, unwind and enjoy life’s little pleasures. From the moment you enter the estate, Manor Lane greets you a with a breathtaking pathway lined with the most beautiful setting of trees. As you drive through the estate, you cant help but appreciate all the picture perfect scenery that awaits. We took advantage of the surroundings and snapped some pics of my new trench coat which I love, but for today, I want to tell you all about our stay, and I’ll share the style post with you tomorrow. We checked into our VIP Suite on Friday afternoon and spent some time exploring and admiring the grounds before our dinner reservation at the Granita Restaurant. The festive season has crept up on us once again! Are you ready? Have you planned and planned for months? Have you got everything you need? Don’t stress if you haven’t gone into major planning mode for Christmas, because Woolies has your back! Back in August, I attended their Christmas media day, and let me just tell you, that besides the fab gifting options, the food is out of this world!!! Serve it up in your most stylish dinnerware, and your guests will think you’re a rock star, gourmet cook! We were treated to a delightful menu of fabulous food cooked up, prepared and presented by the talented Woolies food team… For starters, I had the Norwegian Salmon, cured and marinated in lemon and pink peppercorn. Salmon and Trout canape with gold spray and salmon and prawn terrine with salmon row. Is your tummy rumbling yet? Mine sure is! For mains I had the free range leg of lamb with cranberry sauce, served with ready to eat de-boned gammon, (smoked in beach wood) and served with toppings of crispy bacon, finished with delicious veggies and potatoes. If you don’t have anything planned this weekend, then check out my three favourite burger joints to give you something yummy and fun to do….  Rocomammas – Rivonia Go there for hip vibes, craft beer and a “not so normal burger” Rocomamas have the BEST BURGERS in town! Even more than that, the option to customise your burger (exactly how you want it), and the hip and vibey staff make this a great place to hang while you fill up on good food. The menu concept is pretty cool! You get a form with a whole bunch of options on it, and you basically check the box to customise your creation to your heart’s content! So let’s say you start with a 150g Smashed Beef Burger, then you want to add Blue Cheese Dressing, Pickles, Caramalized Red Onions and lets say Bacon, just check all the options, choose whether you want fries or not and then give it to your waiter.
