Romantic Weekend Getaway

Last weekend was one of the best we’ve had in ages. In March, we celebrated our 8-year wedding anniversary and I really wanted to do something special, so we headed out to “the country” for a romantic weekend getaway at the beautiful Kievits Kroon Country Estate in Pretoria.

This 16-hectare estate is a true gem! It’s like being in the beautiful Cape Winelands, without venturing too far from home. Well, if your home is in jozi that is! Lush and tranquil, Kievits Kroon is a country escape that has everything you need to relax, unwind and enjoy life’s little pleasures.

From the moment you enter the estate, Manor Lane greets you a with a breathtaking pathway lined with the most beautiful setting of trees. As you drive through the estate, you cant help but appreciate all the picture perfect scenery that awaits. We took advantage of the surroundings and snapped some pics of my new trench coat which I love, but for today, I want to tell you all about our stay, and I’ll share the style post with you tomorrow.

We checked into our VIP Suite on Friday afternoon and spent some time exploring and admiring the grounds before our dinner reservation at the Granita Restaurant.

What I absolutely love about Kievits Kroon’s accommodation, is that it’s not like staying in a busy hotel. Our suite was nestled away in the beautiful gardens, completely separated, with our own front door, which made it feel welcoming and homey. We had our own patio, our own parking space and the only “noise” we could hear was the beautiful chirping sounds of all the little Kievits that call this estate home.

There’s lots of different accommodation options to choose from at the estate. The Zulu Rooms look pretty cool too!

Our suite was spacious and beautifully decorated in a neutral palette. It had everything we needed and more – including an actual coffee machine (since I am a self professed coffee snob) and I took full advantage of the king sized spa tub in the bathroom. Also loved the carpeted floors. I know, I know, carpted floors… but trust me, when you’ve lived in a house with tiled/ wooden floors for ages, you kinda miss the luxe of carpet under your feet.

I could explore the grounds all day. The estate has the most amazing pool area that was so welcoming; the loungers in the water looked so tempting! Perfect to chill out on a hot summer’s day.

Around the gardens, there were a few couples enjoying little gourmet picnics out on the lawn. Although we didn’t picnic – I definitely want to come back to Kievits Kroon to experience this, and soon! It looked so amazing and very “French”, with little baguettes peeking out the perfectly prepared baskets. I didn’t want to photograph the other guests “chilling out”, but hopefully I’ll be able to share my own picnic experience soon.

Kievits Kroon supplies your whole picnic for you including; a picnic blanket, cushions and a delicious basket of treats which also includes wine from their award-winning wine list.

We were treated to an incredible, 7-star, set gourmet dinner in the Granita Restaurant. I’ll let my pictures speak for this part as it was just too amazing too even put into words! The food was fantastic and each main meal was paired with a wine to complement the flavours. Since we were staying over, we were free to let loose and enjoy all the pleasures of the wine, which was fantastic since we didn’t need to drive, and yes, we did manage to walk back to our room 🙂 – although they do have a golf cart if you feel you’ve indulged too much.

I must also say that the service at Granita was impeccable! Paulos was our waiter for the night and he was top notch and ensured our glasses were always full – thanks Paulos!

The following morning we had a delightful breakfast at Kingsley’s Restaurant and made our way to the Winelands Spa to enjoy our wonderful couples massage. Our massage included a full body massage as well as a scalp massage that was to die for. Rafilwe and Daisy were our therapists, and they both had us feeling super relaxed and stress free. Both of us, literally dozed off a few times which is always a good sign.

The spa has a whole host of treatments, but for a romantic getaway, the couples massage is a must!

After our treatments we spent some time relaxing in the thermal pool and the Jacuzzi. The spa also has other themae facilities, including; steam rooms, saunas, Swiss showers and plunge pools – so if you book a treatment at the Spa you could and should enjoy the entire day there just chilling out. Be sure to pack your swimsuit – and sunscreen so you can have sundowners by the pool before you leave.

We had an absolutely fantastic experience. Both the hubz and I are still talking about our stay and we’re making mental notes to go back again. If you’re in Jozi or PTA and you’re looking for a great place to get away, I would highly recommend that you check this gem out! Kievits Kroon offer a variety of dining, sleeping and spa packages which are affordable and very worth it!

Thanks so much to Kievits Kroon for hosting us and to my fabulous followers on Twitter (Carla and Loren) for making me aware of this this beautiful place!

See you soon little Kievits xxx

You are welcome 🙂 I decided that I am going to tell my hubby that as a “push present”
(after this baby is born in June) I want a Kievits Kroon night away 🙂 Leave the baby with granny and indulge in some good food, wine, spa treatments and that jacuzzi! I am glad you had such a good time! And I agree.. you MUST have a picnic! They are the best!

LOL Carla, “Push Present” haha! I think you definitely need to tell hubby you need that present! The Winelands Spa is one of the best I’ve been to in a long time. Can’t wait to go back for that picnic. Good luck with the baby and thanks again for the tip about this gem xx
