Get Your Nail Polish To Last

Get Your Nail Polish To Last

Nails! The bane of my existence! I used to get my nails Shellac-ed all the time, which I loved because my nail colour would last for weeks, and my nails would look in pretty darn good shape. Nowadays, time seems like a luxury I just can’t afford. So for the past couple of weeks, I’ve been paying real close attention to the condition of my nails and it’s really paying off in terms of far prettier at-home-nail-jobs, healthier nails and longer lasting polish. Best part, it isn’t as hard as you think! You will need to invest in a few essential tools to prep your nails for the perfect paint job. Before you apply your nail colour, spend a little time getting your nails in tip top shape. Make sure your nails are completely clean and free of any oils. Even if you’ve just removed your previous colour, use a little nail scrubbing brush to scrub off any excess oils. Next, dry your nails completely. Shape your nails using a nail file, going in one direction rather than sawing back and forth. Gals, you get nail files and then you get nail files! Those cheapies you find in the supermarket…

Ombre Sparkle Holiday Nails

Ombre Sparkle Holiday Nails

This Nails Inc Chelsea Embankment polish is, without a doubt, the most intense, most glittery-glitter polish I’ve ever come across. It’s absolutely gorgeous and perfect for sparkly, holiday nails! I received it the other day with Nails Inc Basil Street polish, which is a true nude and since I’m feeling festive, I wanted to try a little ombre sparkle on my nails. The results came out beautifully! I love it! Another look you could try with combo is painting all your nails with Basil Street and then adding Chelsea Embankment to your ring finger only for a a glamours, subtle sparkle effect. Get your Ombre Party Nails On! Start by applying two coats of Basil Street (allowing the first coat to dry before applying the second). Next, using a glittery top coat with subtle sparkle, apply over Basil Street on the entire nail. You can use Chelsea Embankment, just be sure to wipe off as much product from the brush as you can. The idea is to create just a hint of sparkle at the base of the nail and this product has serious glitter. Once that has dried, dip your brush into Chelsea Embankment and wipe it a few times. Then apply it on the middle, bottom half of the nail and spread it down and across. Lastly, apply a coat…

Chanel’s Iconic Red Nail Polish Collection

Chanel’s Iconic Red Nail Polish Collection

Timeless hits of the 80’s! This November, CHANEL launches its Les Rouges Culte De Chanel Nail Collection; three vintage CHANEL reds, that are so gorgeous you’ll want them all! It was the year 1980 when CHANEL welcomed ROUGE FLAMBOYANT, a pure and energetic red that introduced cheerful energy into the new decade. It’s a perfect scarlet red that oozes style and makes a elegant statement. In 1981, LAQUE ROUGE was added to the CHANEL Le Vernis family. It is a deep carmine red that reveals an incomparable elegance. This red is not quite as solid as Rouge Flamboyant but a great red if you prefer more brownish undertones. In 1987, ROUGE N°19 brought a luxurious blush to the classic red with a subtle shimmer to express playful femininity. This shade has more of a pinkish-purple tone to it and the shimmer is hardly noticeable, but still manages to add a girly dimension to this shade. The thing I love, and have always loved about CHANEL polish, is that one coat is all it takes to achieve vibrant, luxurious colour that is an exact colour match to that of it’s bottle. A lot of nail polishes look rich and vibrant in the bottle, but once you apply them, you have to layer on tons of product to achieve the desired shade. With…

Essie Gel Polish

Essie Gel Polish

I won’t lie, I am not normally a fan of a having gel on my nails. Having said that, the last time I tried old-school gels on my nails was on my wedding, which was more than six years ago! Since then, I’ve moved over to Shellac and had written gel polish off all together. But then, I got to try the new Essie Gel and as much as I didn’t want to love it, I was really impressed with it. It lasted for 13 days, with only a slight chip on one of my nails and it looked great. It probably would have lasted longer, but since I chose a bright shade, the re-growth was getting to me. It’s loaded with an exclusive Keratin-Care technology in all processes of the application. This ensures that the nails protected from start to finish. The formula itself is super thin, so you don’t get thick eeky paint blobs. And, although its a gel, it looks like a regular mani, but one that’s more polished, and lasts longer than a traditional paint polish. The application is all done in salon (sorry gals, but you will have to go into a salon to get…

Legendary Lights! L’oreal L’Or Lumiere Collection

Legendary Lights! L’oreal L’Or Lumiere Collection

L’Oréal have really upped their game with their L’Or Lumiere Collection. I mean, L’Oréal are on top of the game with all their makeup collections, but this one is definitely my favourite so far! Lights, luminance, sparkle and texture. What more could a girl ask for? So let me start with the star of the collection… Lumi Magique Pearl Powder When I first laid eyes on this beaut, I was in awe! I mean, just look how gorgeous it is! For a product that retails under R200 bucks, it certainly looks extremely luxe and really expensive! It’s a gorgeous iridescent powder and the next best thing next to my fave highlighting powder of all time, Poudre Signee De Chanel Illuminating Powder. Lumi Magique Pearl Powder has great dimension that looks natural on the skin, giving your cheeks a subtle glow that’s gorgeous but not too overdone – just the way I like it. I love the pop of rose shimmer in this powder that highlights the cheeks even further. It is available in two shades, Rose Boudoir and Rose Radieux and this my friends, is a limited edition, so you’ll need to get your hands on it and quick! Colour Riche Mono Eye Shadow Lately I’ve been using…

Berry Beautiful

Berry Beautiful

A little while ago, I met up with Charli from INGLOT, so that he could tell me about all the amazing new (makeup) things coming our way, from one of my favourite makeup brands. He gave me a few samples from the latest INGLOT Berry Collection to try them out. The nail colours, come in six fabulous shades and are all O2M Breathable Nail Enamels. Which is Inglot’s signature line that allows moisture and oxygen to pass through the nail colour, keeping your nails in tip top condition. I got to sample two colours. Shade 689 is a pretty gorgeous deep burgundy red, which I didn’t love at first. But once I put it on my nails, I was sold. I’m actually still wearing it on my toes, and it’s a really lovely plum red colour. The second shade, 691 is a royal purple that looks very much like black, but with rich purple tones. It’s a great colour for dark moods, and if you want to wear black, but not black if you know what I mean! Both of these are really nice, rich colours that will keep your nails happy for the last few weeks of winter! They lasted on my nails for three days without chipping, and my nails still looked healthy after…

The Essie “Icon Shades”

The Essie “Icon Shades”

Let’s talk for a moment, about iconic nail polish! What springs to mind?… Essie! If you were thinking more along the lines of colour, what shades came up? Red, black, pastel pink, white? Well, you’d be right! I got to play around with some of these iconic colours from Essie and love, love, love! Who doesn’t love a black nail? My best is black nails, well kept, that are a just long enough to extend slightly past your nail bed. Black long nails for me are a no-no, unless of course, you’re doing some crazy nail art design. In 1982, Essie became a big hit in Japan. The colour, “Licorice” was created for the Asian market, where highly embellished nail styles were already in fashion. This red, “Really Red” is a really, really, really red. It’s solid and bright and if you’re into reds, you have to have this one in your collection. Pink polish is every girl’s BFF and looks good with just about anything. The pastel pink shade “Ballet Slippers” is a colour that was developed in 1989 for, wait for it… her Majesty the Queen Elizabeth. Apparently her hairdresser sent Essie a letter requesting this shade for…

Sublime Nails

Sublime Nails

Oh yes! It’s time to get inspired for a change of season. Loving MAVALA’s new nail trends for our upcoming Autumn/ Winter 2014 in South Africa! Their latest collection, Sublime, features six sensual shades that adopt a more intimate, classic attitude while keeping the look feminine, seductive and confident. Glamorous nudes, browns, blushes and blues inspired by the 1940’s. Poetic Rose – a smoky rose Twilight Blue – a dark midnight blue Espresso – a warm dark brown Amethyst – a precious purple Ivory Beige – a luxurious beige Warm Grey  – a beige grey Such gorgeous, rich and pretty colours! I’ve been rocking Amethyst for a couple of days now and although I am not a fan of purple nail polish, this one is such a great colour. It’s like a deep plum, reminiscent of a good glass of red wine. I can’t wait to trade in my bright oranges and hot pinks for some sensual winter shades. Which one is your fave? [signature]

Take Your Nails On The Open Road {Hot, New Nail Colours From Vinylux}

Take Your Nails On The Open Road {Hot, New Nail Colours From Vinylux}

Grab your Aviators, throw on your little denim gilet, and take your nails on the Open Road! So excited about the launch of VINYLUX’s new Spring nail collection, Open Road. The collection comprises of six (five of which are brand new) shades of soft, summery, boho-chic nail colours!   Fresh and free-spirited this collection is inspired by earth’s sun-washed reflections. The shades include; Clay Canyon (new), Desert Poppy (new), Mint Convertible (new),  Powder My Nose, Sage Scarf  (new) and Sun Bleached (new). I usually love a bright nail for summer, but I am so love with this slightly toned down collection for a change.  I was most surprised with the yellow, Sun Bleached since I thought it would look strange on my nails. But I totally dig it – Even though it’s not bright, the colour pops and looks vibrant without looking like you’ve got nicotine tips. I’ll post a piccie on my instagram of the colour so keep an eye out. -you can follow me on stylescoopdimi-. I also really, really love Mint Convertible – a minty fresh green, and Desert Poppy – a coral with a hint of shimmer. Such a perfect collection for summer! What’s your favourite shade? Vinylux is available exclusively at salons. For more…
