Hi There

My Closet Room Reveal

My Closet Room Reveal

I’ve been meaning to do an updated closet room tour since moving to our new home, and also because my closet room is always a hot topic and one that is highly requested by my lovely readers on StyleScoop. We’ve been in Jozi for two years now, so it’s about dang time! This weekend, after giving my vanity table a fresh coat of paint, I thought now is the perfect time to invite you into a little visual tour of my second JHB Closet. The first one was just okay. I had set it up in the spare bedroom (benefits of not having kids haha), but I didn’t love it. It was dark and the walls were a bland and boring yellow paint (which we couldn’t re-fresh), but this one, man oh man, it’s perfect. Bright white walls,  high beam exposed ceilings and so much friggin natural light! The set up is very similar to my previous one from our Durban home, it’s just bigger and a lot better. I used most of the fittings from my old setup from the very first closet room, and since I have more space in this room, I could add an extra book shelf slash shoe…

How to Hang Your Jeans

How to Hang Your Jeans

Finding your jeans in your closet can be quite frustrating! I used to store mine, folded on top of one another on a shelf, and I could never find which pair I was looking for! In fact, I hardly knew what jeans I had! After re-arranging my Closet Room (here’s what it looked like before – I still need to do that post on the updated layout by the way), I managed to squeeze in a bit more hanging space, so I decided to dedicate a rail (well half a rail) to storing my jeans. I now hang all my jeans in a way that I can see them properly! Not only the colour, but the cut, style, and most importantly for me, the leg. I am a jeans person, so I love my skinnies, bootlegs and boyfriend jeans. Hanging and displaying them like this has made a huge difference in helping me find “just the right pair”. I have three basic hanging methods, all using wooden hangers. I mostly hang my jeans by slipping the back belt loops onto the sides of the hanger. This works for most of my Demi-Curve Levi’s jeans becuase they are low waisted and have enough “room”…

How I Store My Accessories

How I Store My Accessories

By now you probably know that I have a bit of an addiction when it comes to accessories and another one, equally as obsessive when it comes to storing and organizing stuff. I took over a little corner in my hubby’s dressing room and used an old chest of drawers that was filled with junk, to create my own little Accessories Armoire. I would absolutely die to have a real jewellery armoire one day, but for now, this set up will have to do… I contemplated painting my chest white, but because it’s been in my family for so long, I decided against it. I thought it would be nice to give you guys a little tour of how I store my accessories, which will hopefully give you some ideas on how to store your own. On the top of the chest, I keep my stretchy bracelets. I found this awesome bangle/ bracelet display stand at China Mall and although it does take up a lot of space, it keeps my bracelets accessible and easy to see. Taking them off is quite easy, as most of them are stretchy, so you can just stretch them over. I’m also using my…

Our Super Clever Ways to Store & Organize Your Accessories

Our Super Clever Ways to Store & Organize Your Accessories

I am a sucker for awesome ideas to store and organize stuff, especially when it comes to girly things like shoes, clothes, makeup and accessories. After years of hoarding collecting bundles of bangles, necklaces, rings, sunglasses etc, I’ve realised that it’s far better to buy and look after something you like, rather than just spend more money on more stuff just because you haven’t looked after it. Besides keeping your stuff looking newer for longer, storing your accessories neatly also makes life so much easier when trying to find something. Here are some of my own pics and ideas on how to organize your accessories…   I love long necklaces, but had never found any decent way to store mine. Then, thanks to Pinterest I found a great idea that inspired my own… to use cute cupboard door handles, drill them into the wall and then just pile on the accessories. They also make a really cute feature on the wall. I featured my ring storage solution on StyleScoop back in January this year. Here, I used clear plastic egg trays (that I found at Mr Price Home) to store all my rings. You could even use empty egg cartons and paint them in…

Inside my Closet… with Superficial Girls

Inside my Closet… with Superficial Girls

Spring is the perfect time to clean out and re-organize your closet! To help motivate you, we’ve asked some stylish fashionistas to take us inside their closet. This week, we’re taking you inside the closet of local fashion style blogger, Carlinn from Superficial Girls. We’re absolutely hooked on this girl’s amazing style, so we were just as excited to peek inside her closet. Take a look… Tell us a bit about your closet I used to have a whole room that I used as a closet and makeup room when I lived in Malta, but when we moved back to Cape Town space was definitely an issue, so I had to come up with some very creative ways to store my clothes, shoes and jewelry! At the moment I have all my jackets in one cupboard, dresses and shirts in another and then tees, jeans, shorts and skirts are all folded. I rotate my clothing with the seasons and I also have a clothing rail in the garage, where I keep some of things that I don’t wear that often. My shoes are all sorted by style or color and I showcase some of my more “special pairs” in the dining area…

And if you’re a fan of the Kardashians, you’ve probably seen the sisters’ amazing clear makeup storage boxes and like me, have been hunting for one? Well, acrylic makeup organizers are now available to us in SA thanks to 27Pinkx. The lovely Khatija sent me one of these awesome acrylic makeup drawers to review and I am in love with it. It’s amazing just how much makeup can fit inside while still looking pretty and organized, but most importantly, ensuring everything is easily accessible. Take a look… These clear acrylic makeup organizers are beyond beautiful and can store both your large and small beauty products, all in one place! The size of this one is 310mm wide x 380mm high x 305mm deep and consists of five compartments. The top compartment has a flip-lid that you can use to store all your daily essentials. I’ve used mine to store all my palettes and some foundations which I’ve laid flat because I keep the my lid closed. The lid flips right back, so you can even leave it open to store…

Cute & Clever Storage

Cute & Clever Storage

I’m a little OTT when it comes to storing and organizing stuff. You’ll know this if you’ve seen my closet room, my makeup storage ideas (here and here) or how I store my bling rings so that I can find and see them. The only thing that was a little out of control, was my hair accessories. They were all over the place, and like most of you I’m sure, I was buying more and more. That was until I got this awesome little storage bag from the fab peeps over at SassDiva as a Women’s Day gift earlier in August. It was packed with all sorts of Diva goodies, including some lovely pastel nail polishes, fun coloured hair bands, retro earrings, studs, a gorgeous gold collar and some other fun things like a manicure set and girly earphones, all of which are available from SassDiva. When I saw how this cute and clever gift came packed, I thought it would be the perfect way to store my hair accessories. Take a look… It’s got loads of little zipper compartments, which makes storing and seeing your stuff awesome. Plus, it’s got a little hanger so you can hang it in your wardrobe or behind your…

Fab Find Friday – Earring Stands

Fab Find Friday – Earring Stands

So you guys know my obsession with organising and storing my stuff! Always on the hunt for new and clever ways to organise, I found these amazing little earring stands that are a must for every gal! How do you guys store your earrings? I must say, mine were a total mess! I had them all over the place, constantly buying more because I could never find them, forgotten about them, or lost the butterflies – how annoying! That was until I discovered these… Handy little earring stands that I picked up at Dischem for under R50 bucks! I love these because you can store your hanging earrings as well as your studs, and you’re able to see everything nice and neatly. The other benefit is that your earrings don’t get damaged, tangled or go missing. Studs go at the top, and you can store a variety of sizes. There’s actually a lot of space, so depending on the size of your studs, you can store them up here. Your hanging earrings can be placed through the stud holes, or through these little slits, that makes getting them in and out a breeze! As you can see, this little gadget…

DIY Post – How to Make Your Own Closet Room

DIY Post – How to Make Your Own Closet Room

After posting my Closet Room the other day I got so many requests from you guys asking where I got the wardrobes and how to set them up etc.  Believe it or not these babies came from Mr Price Home and at only R899 a piece. I’ve got four of them that we joined together to create my Closet Room. Here’s how you can get your own… CLOSET IN A BOX Each one of the wardrobes come in a box that you assemble yourself. It’s fairly easy to get the wardrobe up yourself, but its great if you have some help. I’m glad my hubby helped me put my wardrobes up as he came up with the idea to join the two together, making them look like a single unit. You can place the shelves wherever you want, they don’t have to be exactly as the instruction. You will however need a bottom shelf for support and one fairly close to the top to keep it supported throughout. The only thing you wont be able to to do, is if you’re going to join the wardrobes you wont be able to have all the shelves aligned in the same position.…

My Closet Room

My Closet Room

Since moving into our new place, I’ve been obsessing over a lot of new and exciting things. One of these being my all new, all fabulous and all mine CLOSET ROOM! If you follow me on Twitter, you’ve probably seen some of the pics and know all about my closet room ramblings, so I thought I’d share it with you now that it’s almost done. Before I get into it, I just want to say that I’m not posting this room to brag or show off what I’ve got. I just want to give my readers some ideas, as many of you are able to do this in your own home. For others, you may pick up some great tips to help organize your space and make it easier for you to find and store your clothing and accessories. I’ve been collecting my stuff for years and hold onto absolutely everything. I’m a bit of a hoarder, which can often suck, but in the case of creating a room like this, is quite a bonus. I also take really good care of my stuff, so it tends to last me quite a bit. Ok, nuff rambling, lets see the closet!…

Shop Your Closet…

Shop Your Closet…

Imagine having a room just for your clothes. A whole room dedicated to everything you love, out fabulously on display just like a boutique. Like most of you (I’m sure), we don’t all have a dreamy walk in closet leading off our main bedroom between our bathroom ala Carrie Bradshaw (Sex and The City). But, what some are able to do is convert a room into a closet, after all, when you really think about it, how many times does your “guest” bedroom really get used? The first time I had heard of closet rooms was from StyleScoop’s own Fearless Fashionista, Jasna. It’s been something I’ve wanted for ages, and now its finally happening! If you follow me on Twitter, you’ll know that I’m working on my very own, very first and very exciting closet room. We’ve just bought a new house and with four bedrooms and two people, I’ve been given the freedom and green light from my hubby to “go wild” in one of the rooms – yay!!!! It was actually his suggestion – I know, I’ve trained him well haven’t I? So, stay tuned, I’ll be posting my closet room just as soon as I’ve managed to…

The Fearless Fashionista’s Closet Room Make over Part 3 Or

The Fearless Fashionista’s Closet Room Make over Part 3 Or

So here is part 3 and the last post on my closet room make over. – Jasna This is the other side of my the room where I have situated my desk and my clothing rail. I painted the desk white  and added a few personal touches to it. I love my green mouse pad and my pink mouse. I decided to move the clothing rail away from the window and put it behind the door. I hung some of my bags on the door along with my DFC cap.   I put my tripod next to the window so that I can take pics when my photographer is not around and hung more bags on the mirror stand. I put some of my shoes on top or along side my fashion books to add a quirky touch.     Some of my bags and shoes on the white shelves. There are 1 or 2 final items I must still find and then my closet room/studio/office room will be complete.
